Hipsters? Al "Jazzebo" Collins, Jack Kerouac, Ginsberg, Steve Allen, Robert Frank...etc. etc. must be rolling in their graves with the misuse of this word. Ok, not Robert Frank, he's still alive but enough of calling beardos drinking fancy beer and wearing flannels 'hipsters', I prefer lumbersexuals or even better, Portlander.

@1, geez, way to welcome him into retail...I for one am glad Sonic Boom is still around!! I never go to Boob Street yet Ballard has two new stores which have opened recently, Mezzanine on 20th and Market and Blue Bell on 52nd Street! Support your local record stores Cato!

I can still recall that shack of a store when they first opened...and I can recall purchasing the Silver Apples "Contact" record from them along with tons of other great lp's. Cheers to the new owner and many thanks to Nabil and Jason!

I am going to echo @1's feelings albeit the saddest part of this story is the Pizza Hut delivery. Yet, I too will follow Travis and eat wherever he lands! He makes creative yet not precious food that this city has never seen before. Great article for a real pioneer!

Cupcake Royale. Really? I would have hoped all those weed ads would at least let the new geniuses get a real cake!? geez.

@14 and Ms. Sydney, "dykekiki" hasn't been a ladies beach in years. MANY years it was for a few swim seasons. Presently most of my dyke pals say it is too creppy with dudes walking around naked - which it is.

This article is so much of the "good ol' days" type bullshit that makes all the new people here laugh. I have lived here since 1988 and yet feel awkward talking about how cool Fremont was or shopping on Broadway since that too in 1988 was changing and many old timers back then were telling me "meh" to both places. @3, awesome - the older Rendezvous was scary and fun...I can still remember someone dying there from an OD and the bar kept serving drunks, er, drinks after they hauled away the corpse.

Ugh, Red Mill's food is sub par already so this does not help. Say what you want about the City Council but the bullshit reposts and sexism is fucked up. Well, I am not boycotting unless you consider my not going for close to 8 years a continued boycott. Zippy Burgers, Dicks FTW's!!
