Looks like the "experimenters" initiated all the contacts, too. The article mentions that so many had to have "liked her back". This doesn't reveal some deep depravity in anyone but the assholes that set up the fake.

Amy is advising the parents to call the cops and tell them what, exactly? That an adult might be trying to have sex with other adults? They'll probably drop everything and head right over.
Apr 23 Sean commented on What Do You Think of the Internet Sales Tax?.
I hate all the poll options. I'd say that as long as states like Washington are stupidly dependent on sales instead of income tax, that it's necessary as long as it goes to the states that are losing the revenue.

All those benefits they talk about don't really apply to my indoor only cats. I'm not sure what the point would be.
Mar 25 Sean commented on Will an Active NFL Player Come Out of the Closet in the Next Few Months?.
@15: On the other, other hand, the NFL seems to be the sport that values merit over anything else more than the others. It's the one where "can he play?" would be the relevant question from most of the players/staff. Baseball with all it's various traditions and related crap would seem to me to be the most dangerous place to come out professionally. If not for the Canadian influence on hockey or the generally left of normal sports fans perception of soccer in the US specifically, I'd have assumed we'd get an out NFLer first.

I had an interesting experience with it. Glad I watched it. I certainly can understand the criticism of the dramatizations.
I didn't bother to read any background material and just watched it fresh. And in doing so, I assumed that I was watching a mockumentary, especially due to the filmed segments. I was left quite impressed with how realistic some parts were, such as the lie detector being worthlessly inconsistent, while assuming I was watching a work of fiction.
Feb 18 Sean commented on Wondering How to Feel About the GMO Labeling Initiative?.
I hate this. There's really no reason for it scientifically and there's been so much scare mongering around this particular method of genetic engineering, compared to the ones we're used to (that is to say, the rest of agriculture). It's so popular among the uninformed that I'm going to end up alienating everyone I know by telling this to them, because no one likes hearing something they're afraid of is benign. And I'll be constantly accused of defending Monsanto in the process as though that were related to anything in this initiative.

@3: http://impact.ese.ic.ac.uk/ImpactEffects… lets you play with parameters. We know this one's a silicate asteroid, so the density's low. Assuming normal asteroidal speed and an average 45 degree impact, this one would have really minimal impact. Here's the results I got for being just 100 km away: http://impact.ese.ic.ac.uk/cgi-bin/crate…
