I don't understand this thing where people imagine that somehow feminism has banned men from doing things like opening doors, complimenting, and being protective.

(Most) women still love these things (from the right person, at the right time, and done in the right way) from men who treat them with respect. The only people who imagine that women aren't allowed to have the parts of the traditional male-female dynamic they like unless they're willing to accept the parts they don't like (ie being treated like dirt) seem to be a bunch of out-of-touch pundits.

If Frank Miller is finding that women don't take his unsolicited compliments well, I'm guessing it has more to do with him radiating creepiness when he gives them than any song Rod Stewart sang. I liked the first Dark Knight comic a lot BTW.

@35: The fact that you don't know that, despite how obvious it is to observe in the real world makes me think you're either really dumb, or like 12 years old.

Take the whole thing down. This woman is a real person who probably lives in this town. A decent person would be thinking "maybe her and her friends haven't seen this yet and there's no reason she needs to see this comment thread".

Take it down Kelly O and replace it with a short apology to the subject.

This isn't journalism and umm, it's not exactly like slog has a shortage of silly little fluff pieces to replace it with.

Hey peabrain - Just because you've got the right to say something doesn't mean you're not an asshole for saying it.

How come you don't post your delightful little ditties under your real name so your mommy can be proud of her little boy?
Aug 20 chrisgreen commented on Photo of the Week: Shirtless in Seattle?.
Whoever thought this would be a good article should rethink their judgement. All it will do is generate comments from other assholes with decent people arguing back.

This woman, like anyone else should wear what she pleases. People who find her look attractive should be appreciative, and other people should shut the fuck up.

The only satisfaction I'm getting out of this thread is thoughts about what I would do or say to a person like "Pope Peabrain" (apt) if they actually served up this kind of shit to women in public instead of cowering in front of their keyboards.

This is the disfunctional law at work. It's completely unreasonable to expect people to only use the second most popular recreational drug only in their homes far away from all social events.

I voted for the law. It needs to be augmented to allow things such as smoking decks at bars, and designated lounges, the equivalent of beer gardens at public events, etc. Imagine what the situation would be like with alcohol if you were allowed to buy it but not drink in bars and restaurants and designated areas anywhere nightlife areas.

If the legal authorities are too lame to actually consider fixing this, the seattle cops should:

Step up issuing tickets. BUT, issue guidelines that call for tickets in the scenarios that annoy people.

@6: That's why this story is such a clustefuck. At first, it appeared that Seattle cops as a whole were flouting the voters and discriminating.

But actually it turns out that the police dept is showing great restraint, issuing very few tickets. Presumably they are doing a lot of looking the other way and issuing the occasional warning despite the fact that masses of people are ignoring the (unworkable) current laws about where weed can be consumed.

The actual situation could have been a very positive story for the Seattle police if not for the one officer. Instead it makes the police administration look clueless and incompetent.

@1: It's the wealthier white community that's getting a pass on the laws. I could easily write that many public consumption tickets in one weekend in any of the city's nightlife areas.

The law needs to be reformed to allow designated public consumption areas.
Jul 29 chrisgreen commented on The Feds’ Surprising Response to Exploding Hash-Oil Labs.
Extracting compounds from plants with flammable solvents is a perfectly mainstream industrial process that is done on a large commercial scale all over the world.

But it is done in regulated labs that aren't in residential neighborhoods, with trained personnel, safety and monitoring equipment, and inspections. That's what we need for butane (or CO2 for that matter) hash oil.
