Just for the record, it doesn't even take one date to find out that I hated The OA.

I don't want to quibble with Penny, either, but it'd be great if she put as much thought and energy into showing the human side of Milo's victims as she did his flunkies.

@29-- In some circles, he's been a name for a while, given that he was one of the big forces driving Gamergate a couple of years back. Nobody outside the gaming community gave a shit then. Of course, if you connect the dots, you'll see that Gamergate eventually formed the backbone of the modern 'alt-right.' So yeah, he's going to be a cultural cockroach we won't be fully rid of for a while.

I will never 'get' people who explain basic fetishes in their letters (or calls to the podcast), like Dan's never heard of it before. (Unless that's something Dan edits in to save time explaining in his response.)

I'm a little curious as to whether Dan would answer those questions the same way today. (I imagine so, but still.)

Thing is, a lot of young Bernie 'supporters' were less interested in actually supporting Bernie than they were in voting for a non-Republican who in their eyes would demolish the current system. (Namely, a lot of the same people who are voting for Trump because he'll 'bring the revolution.') So it makes sense they'd immediately pivot to a Libertarian.
Sep 19, 2016 MythicFox commented on Savage Love Letter of the Day: She Wants To Want Her Husband Again.
If they weren't married yet, if he was her fiance and not her husband, Dan would be telling her "You're not sexually compatible, do not marry this man."

Opening up the marriage could help fix what's wrong with it, but to be honest I have trouble seeing it working. The marriage is bleeding out internally, I don't think a band-aid will heal it.

I'm not saying "If only we had Bernie instead," but it is worth noting that the press has its own unwritten rules for how it treats Hillary Clinton compared to basically anyone else. And I don't just mean in the same way that they treat Donald Trump like he's Kramer on Seinfeld while calling Hillary a war criminal because of how she drinks water.

Here's a little something from last year about it:…

he has said he enjoys being verbally mean to people (but never with his boyfriend, he says)

So even aside from the classic "If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person." chestnut, there's the fact that elsewhere in your letter you pretty clearly describe this guy being deliberately rude to you.

The sex isn't worth it. Get out.

I meant to glance back at this thread much sooner and wow it's huge.

So, belatedly replying to CMDwannabe @25: You'd have to talk to LW1's co-worker to see how far their identity goes. The co-worker could simply be into puppy play, have a nickname associated with it, etc. (like the example given by BiDanFan @14) I'm just speculating that the 'Spike' could also be a furry fan, meaning that he's a fan of anthropomorphic art, literature, and so forth. Many people who interact with the furry fandom/community have a nickname or handle, often representing a character or persona they take on. And some furries -- not many, but some -- will use that name as a nickname with friends and co-workers who aren't associated with the fandom because it's just how they like being known, or perhaps friends met them first online and are used to calling them that, or what have you.

If he is a furry fan, it's not necessarily inherently linked to the puppy play (though if you're looking for partners, the furry fandom is a good place to start). Simply being a furry isn't any more of a fetish than being a Star Trek fan (and yet the 'Trekkies' documentary spends a lot of time talking about its subjects' sex lives). But it's possible that Spike is into puppy play and a furry, his co-workers know more about the former than the latter (or they know about both and can't tell the difference), and he's just asking them to use his furry nickname in conversation. If that is the case, it's simply the furry equivalent of the Trekkie who wears a communicator badge pin to work.

Also a note for DOGGONE. While not everyone into puppy play is a furry fan, your co-worker might be. Is it possible that his 'pup' name is also his furry handle, and he just likes going by that nickname (plenty of furs do)? He might be more comfortable expressing the nickname in the context of his fetish because for a lot of people that's oddly easier to grasp than being a furry fan, so he hasn't brought it up. (Or he has and everyone just assumed it was part of the 'puppy play' thing)

(Full disclaimer: Furry fan for just short of 20 years, in case anyone thinks I'm entirely talking out my ass on this.)
