@4 I drove my little 62-mile range electric car from Seattle to the far end of Lakewood and back (~80 miles round trip). I stopped twice at a Shell station in Fife to quick charge it for a few minutes.
While the charging cost and inconvenience of driving an electric car in this case is less than that of a fossil fueled vehicle, the overall costs are lower. Electric cars are already a practical replacement for fossil-fueled vehicles in most use-cases.

It makes sense that Shell would want a base of operations in the lower 48 for their Arctic drilling fleet. By the way, does the Gates Foundation hold any stock in Shell? If so, this would be an even more pointed reason for them to divest. Even if they don't directly hold investments in Shell, other oil companies are looking to see what happens above the Arctic circle and surely have their own plans for offshore drilling if Shell is successful.

These fires are worsened by bark beetle infestation which now breeds twice in a season due to warmer temperatures. I don't think number one grass the scale of this problem. It isn't a matter of merely taking out a few dead trees here and there.
