@18 is the first mention of the real issue. If it showed men carrying children in any other part of the world from a natural disaster, there would be no controversy over this photographer's use of post-processing. (hint: almost every other photo you see in a publication or major web site uses the same techniques)

Capitol Hill has a long way to go to match pre-2000 density. Each single family house on the hill contained 10-20+ residents:

1900-1965- Catholic families(and their elderly and young adult relatives)

1965-2000 - Various combos of hippies, punks, gays, students, new grads, waiters ...

(note: not exact dates there were still large families in the eighties and confirmed bachelors renting rooms in the 1950s)

@12 - I know, right? I'm sure everyone(politicians, media, conservatives, the public, slog commenters etc) will be respectful and only speak of the "good things he did" when Castro(or Mugabe) finally kicks the bucket.

I'm thrilled that Brits, Irish, Scots, Chileans, South Africans etc are publicly celebrating the death of Thatcher. Makes me realize that we were denied this catharsis when Reagan died by media hagiography, rightwing scolding and war-on-terror propaganda.

The biggest NIMBY screamers on Capitol Hill are people living in the architecturally identical 6 pack townhomes across the street. They can't park their oversized SUVs in their owned parking space, so they're freaking out that apodment dwellers are going to take all the spaces with Car2Gos.

@7 - Then the dishes had to be rewashed(3rd time) and the kitchen cleaned(2nd time) because the Ryans violated health codes with their stunt.

I liked Jon Stewart calling it "Tooken" and "The Tookening".

(and there's always "Taken' 2: Electric Tookaloo")

Turn out! Turn out! Turn out! (or mail in! mail in! mail in!)

Prop 8 failed because too many liberals, including predominantly gay zip codes, didn't bother going to the polls after the presidency was called for Obama. We have mail in ballots so there's no excuse.

@31 Probably right about HBO limiting the discs Netflix has available.

@28 - There's something up with the "Very Long Wait"s. My top 20 or so, mostly newish HBO, for the past two months has been static. My queue has dozens of other discs so I haven't been without. I also watch Spanish language films half the time and there is always an abundance on disc and streaming so I stick with Netflix.
