So that's the internet version of Norman Rockwell's painting of a black girl walking to school surrounded by US Marshalls. Lower production values, but still very powerful for all its understatement.

@3 Damn straight. No good reason to unilaterally disarm. Win by the rules currently in place, to be in a better position to write better rules.

And to all the trolls saying that a hiker who gets hurt is a freeloader, y'all better stop driving, and stop motorcycling, and stop barbequing, and stop chainsawing, and stop doing damn near everything else in your life because it just might hurt ya.

@ There is no such thing as a gay wedding cake. There is only a wedding cake ordered by a gay person.

I don't think you're really stupid enough to not understand the difference. I think you're merely bigoted enough, yet sufficiently cognizant of the offensiveness of your bigotry, to be willing to pretend to not understand the difference.

Just in case anyone is concerned, none of what @3 says is true.

@12 Twitter, Tumblr, and twenty-year-olds may not be stellar examples of enlightened leftwing thought, but they are representative of the less-than-stellar leftwing thought among far too many. If you haven't heard anyone cry "Nothing's changed! The whole country is still racist, etc...!", then you haven't been on a college campus lately. They are the left's version of monochromatic thinkers who can't recognize and/or accept nuance or mixed good and bad. And by creating an atmosphere of "more pure and outraged than thou," they retard the worthy goals of the left. (The right's version of these folks are "more patriotic and morally upstanding than thou".)

So Burgess was an ass about it. But it only seems fair to wait for everyone to be there before voting. Otherwise it would have passed only because one councilmember was absent, which doesn't exactly express the will of the council.

@20

"You've convinced me. So from now on everyone letting off steam on their time on their computer should be fired from their jobs. Regardless of whether their private opinions reflect in their work!"

When "letting off steam" means "being a racist asshole", and when "their work" is to serve the public, including the people they've written racist rants about, then yup, fire their ass.

@26 Historical note: shenanigans with balls (footballs, you dirty minds) are the reason there is a special kicker ball. Teams used to soften up one ball more than all the others, then try to get that ball on kicks. So the league designated certain balls, which are actually stiffer and thus harder to kick, to be used only on kicking plays.

@26 Easy. Switch back to the regular balls when the other team is on offense.
