Oh, and let's not forget Lina Wertmuller.

The film historian in me would like to respectfully point to Ida Lupino and Dorothy Arzner.
Nov 14 Pope Buck I commented on SL Letter of the Day: Saying It.
I've always heard that actions speak louder than words. If you love someone, it's how you show it, not how (or whether) you talk about it.
Oct 31 Pope Buck I commented on Christian Acting on Sincerely Held Religious Beliefs Arrested in Oklahoma.
@1: Well, see, that's the thing. The Israelite God of the Old Testament is clearly a tribal god, one of multitudes in the area. He doesn't ever say "I am the only god," just "you shall have no other gods before me." It was only with the New Testament that the early Christians tied the Israelite tribal god to Plato's idea of an omnipotent, all-present being. The two don't really fit together at all.
Oct 27 Pope Buck I commented on SL Letter of the Day: Here's Hoping This One Is Fake.
Presumably, the motive for faking a letter like that would be some ill-informed right-winger under the impression that Dan Savage ALWAYS tells people they have to put up with ANY and EVERY kind of sexual kink from their partners in the name of being GGG. Just like the ones who are convinced he's anti-monogamy and will always endorse open relationships over closed ones. I can totally envision one of those guys trying to smoke Dan's "real" views out.
Oct 2 Pope Buck I commented on SL Letter of the Day: Sarcasm Uptake Inhibitors.
Re the "birthday sex" issue: I would think a lot of it would come down to HOW you ask, and how you respond to your partner's efforts before, during, and after. Asking for special birthday sex could be a fun evening together, or an excuse to be a controlling jerk or complain about everything.
Oct 1 Pope Buck I commented on This Is How the GOP Asks Women for Their Votes.
Such bizarre behavior. They know they have a problem with women. They KNOW this beyond the shadow of a doubt. And yet the idea that their actual attitudes toward women might be the problem? COMPLETELY escapes them. They couldn't possibly... "NOT be right" about something, right? Obviously these women just don't understand why Republicans really have their best interests at heart. Dumb women. Let's just try to mansplain it ONE MORE TIME for them...
Sep 23 Pope Buck I commented on SL Letter of the Day: The Boss of Him.
Her reputation will "precede" her, not "proceed" her. Just getting in ahead of all the grammar Nazis before they descend.
Sep 19 Pope Buck I commented on This Is Where I Leave You: Predictable Dreck That Proves Leo Tolstoy Wrong.
Referring to "That is not what I meant at all!" That's from "Prufrock."

Actually I think that was T.S. Eliot.
