It Turns Out Seattle's Greenest Council Member Must Defend His Record in Summer Primary.
@6: Unless you have actually met the man and have reason to imply such a label (and if so, please, do illuminate), try to keep the debate at an adult level.
And Dominic, I was disappointed in your original characterization of Mr. Shen's editorial. If you go back and represent the entire argument, rather than just taking a snippet without context, you'll see that he was arguing for a thoughtful, long-term plan for the Seattle Center, and used the project examples that he did - bike lanes planned with out consideration to impacts to port operations and the working class jobs they support, apparently ad hoc streetcar projects that are advanced without a clear regional plan that explains why they exist and why they are necessary - to make the point that there needs to be a long range vision brought to City Hall, something sorely lacking with our existing Mayor. And if you disagree with that premise, tell me if the average Seattle voter can elucidate for you what Mr. McGinn stands for. You can't, of course, so you stoop to calling Mr. Shen "a tool." Outstanding journalism, dude.
Oh, and one more thing: what point are you trying to make by observing that people sharing his last name have made large donations? Would it surprise you to know that Shen is a common last name in the Asian community in Seattle? Is it somehow scandalous to learn that people are likely to affiliate with and support those who look and behave similar to themselves? Will you point out with a similarly raised eyebrow when Ed Murray receives support from the LGBT community, or when Bruce Harrell is funded by people with names that you think sound black?

There Is No Goldy.
Most people of devout faith* believe that there are no true atheists, only those who have yet to be faced with the right argument or hear the right testimony.

The "Richie Leaks" Documents.
It matters not. There is no political will, at least here in the US, to punish white collar crime. Oh, there will be some calls for hearings and such, and Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders might actually mean what they say about punishing the offenders, but we all know that nothing will happen. In fact, if this follows the trajectory of Sandy Hook, we'll go from calls for reform that would restrict such behavior to legislative action that actually makes things easier for them. So then we'll think to ourselves that well, at least the miscreants will be publicly shamed and feel bad . . . but sadly, no they really won't. They will in the end somehow put themselves up as the aggrieved, and the press will allow it.
Shit's all fucked up.

Today In the East Carolinian.
@26: former resident of NC checking in here (Go Deacs!); it seems the bill to establish a state religion will not be put up for a vote - killed by the speaker of the house. There is some bit of sanity there after all.
