These are all pretty competitive salaries. You get what you pay for. I'm glad the mayor is doing his best to attract the best talent possible. Bargain shopping for city executives is a bad idea.

I really think a public utility is the way to go. Clearly we're pretty good at managing our electricity, sewer, water, and garbage. We can manage our Internet service as well. We just need to provide safeguards and oversight to ensure civil liberties are not violated by the city -- obviously we have work to do at the Federal level in this area still.
Currently the digital divide in this city is pretty significant. Can you imagine a fast food worker paying $50 - $80 for high speed internet? A public utility will help us get everyone online regardless of their income or where they live.
