After the Last Action Hero.
Uh, "facile" means simplistic or shallow, such as in an argument.
"Fragile"?
As for women kicking arse, yep, and gimmee more female Chinese martial artists as well. Where's the new Michelle Yeoh or Pei-pei Cheng? (I'm sure there are plenty of candidates in Hong Kong, but it'd be nice to have more hit the English language scene).

*chortle* Rely on Matisse for an excellent marketing strategy and some crossover synergies.

@74
"In fact it's often suggested to give the kids special jewelry and have some sort of "family vows."
I don't care what any fucking psychologist might say - I seriously doubt that any would have global advice of THAT nature - if anyone had tried to do "family vows" with me and either of my vile stepfathers, I would have spat on them.
I was thankfully not included in the first ceremony - too young - and for the second, I was old enough to recognise it for the travesty it was. No thank you, pretending that everything is peachy-keen when it patently isn't is NOT psychologically healthy.
If the kids are old enough - over, say, 7 - they should be ASKED whether they would like to go to the wedding. If they seem keen, then ASK if they want to be PART of the wedding. It should be done without the faintest hint of any obligation, and in fact a suggestion that they could go on a special outing with the other parent instead would make it crystal clear.

@25 - while I agree with people lazily conflating feminism with prudishness, I think you missed the fact that Matisse was qualifying the TYPE of feminist she was referring to.
While I think labelling it a "fundamentalist-feminist COMPLEX" might be a bit exaggerated, there certainly are those feminists who are lampooned as "Women Against Everything". And who unfortunately seem to wield a lot of power when their ideas line up with the religious fundamentalists.
I certainly don't think Matisse was trying to label all feminists as "fundamentalists" - quite the converse. But, yes, I see how it could be ambiguous in the context - maybe slightly more clarification that the label is supposed to a distinguishing one rather than a general one (describing all feminists) wouldn't hurt.

To EH: maybe she's a wonderful caring attractive woman (because that's independent of age)... and you're not (ditto).

@22 - bitter, much?
I have to say though, that was one comment of MM's I don't get behind. I don't actually "embrace the mystery". I prefer that people are straight up about what they want.
I can certainly beat around the bush - and so do many men - but that's more out of shyness than wanting to be some kind of "mysterious".
Sure, some do, but I don't even know if it's the majority of women who do - certainly not very many I know personally.

Ok, this is the first Matisse column I don't really relate to. Not to say I haven't run the fuck myself plenty of times (and maybe had it run on me once or twice), but I haven't found that a good screw is solely contingent on someone taking charge, as it were. In fact, for the majority of the sex I have had, I couldn't really tell you who "led" overall. Interesting.

Thank GOD I'm not the only poly person to be squicked by the term "poly families". Charles Manson-ish crossed with fundamentalist mormonism indeed.
And yep, it works for me because of BOUNDARIES. I don't need to like any POPs; I just need to know we operate in an environment of mutual respect. Liking them is an absolute bonus (but nice when it happens).

FFS. Any fetish club, duh. You might even get to *play* with the shoes. You're a lot more likely to get people there who will accommodate your "liking" for them.
