"Joshua Henderson, founder of the Skillet Diner empire, is leading that change [adding the health insurance surcharge]" .
I guess I've had my last meal at Skillet. I don't support restaurants that publicly campaign against healthcare benefits.
Jan 9, 2013 nedludd commented on Sonics Deal Being Finalized, but Union Vows to Keep Up Lawsuit to Stop Arena.
@4 Joe: the argument is that an Environmental Impact Review process is supposed to analyze genuine alternatives to the proposed site, but that by signing the MOU with Hansen, the City has created unstoppable momentum for its desired conclusion, and that consideration of Key Arena etc is too unserious to call it a genuine review process. Of course, this could apply to almost any EIR process for any proposed project (there's always a deal already made) but that's what keeps up environmental lawyers' car payments.

As a friend remarked: " when I smoke I expect to become Bob Marley, but I always end up feeling like Homer Simpson."

I'll give it another whirl when the weirdness of the acquisition experience goes away, but I'm not expecting to like it any better than I did 20 years ago.

Goldy, don't forget the Times' happy dance over our road kill Democratic Gov and Legislators having begun to dismantle Washington's Workers Comp system. The Times didn't pretend to feel any pain. Cutting benefits for injured workers (the only way the "reform" achieves any savings), is an unqualified good as far as the bloodthirsty Blethens are concerned. The only problem for them was that the Legislature didn't finish the job: "more ...needs to be done" to injured workers, they thunder.

I've seen the same argument applied to all men: once evolutionarily necessary, but now, with in vitro fertilization and general absence of sabre-toothed tigers, obsolete. That's a more persuasive case

I agree with the general sentiment here, but this particular game will be a snooze. The Storm are resting their starters as they coast to an already guaranteed top seed in the playoffs.

It's a telling commentary on Slog's slacker and desk-jockey audience that only one commenter has mentioned the Workers Comp privatization initiative. 1082 is a far more serious and frightening move by the Right than the liquor store privatization initiative.

@11: yeah, discovering fabulous mineral resources always solves those pesky civil war/warlord problems. Look what it did for the Congo!

The City and the City by Mieville wasn't just one of the best science fiction books of the year, it was one of the best books of any genere or none.
