Community Outraged at Safeway's Plans to Demolish Beloved Silver Fork Diner.
I just emailed Safeway - here's their response:
Hi Harolynne –
Thank you for sending me your comment. The article did not accurately represent the situation. The property is not owned by Safeway. The current owners put the property on the market, and Safeway is one of the interested purchasers. If Safeway does not purchase the property, another party likely will and will also redevelop it. We are not the current landlords, and had no knowledge that the landlords did not inform their tenant that they were selling the property (if that is, in fact, true).
What I hope community members understand is that even if Safeway were not to purchase the property, another buyer would appear who would also likely redevelop it. The best effort now is to try to find the restaurant another location, or this is simply delaying the inevitable.
Thank you again.

McConnell Blinks on Debt Ceiling.
First, Obama would have to trust the Republicans, and they've proven themselves to be so trustworthy in the past, right.
Second, Obama would have to be willing to give the Republicans 12 times to bash him on raising the debt (all by his lonesome) before the 2012 election.
Third, I think it is still all kabuki. They have to raise the debt ceiling and Obama needs to get the best deal he can - this isn't it.

It's Always Like This With # 7.
This seems to be sort of a silly post since the 7 Express is about to be eliminated and the 7 itself is going to have a modified schedule (which is a nice way of saying reduced).
Because if you think people are going to vote for bus service you're wrong!

A Memoir of Violence and Men.
I listened to an interview with this author conducted by Diane Rehm and found myself very much interested in reading the memoir.
Maybe if you had listened to him talking about the book and what prompted him to write it, you might not hate it quite as much.

On Strangercrombie Loss.
Seattle Public Library has the Albert Bauch autograph collection located in the Hugh and Jane Ferguson Seattle room. I bet the curator of that collection would be a great help in answer all of the questions.
Sorry about the pets. It is so sad to lose a family member and three at once must be devastating.

The Obvious—And Impossible—Response to the AFA's Superbowl Abortion Ad.
My understanding of the Tebow situation is that at that time in the Philippines ALL abortions were illegal and both she and the doctor faced a 6 year prison sentence. I find it hard to believe a Filipino doctor would be willing to risk losing his license (and ability to make a decent living) at best and his freedom at worse for a foreign missionary of a different religion (most Filipinos are either Catholic or Muslim).
Gloria Allred is threatening to sue CBS for running this ad if they do not talk about the illegality of abortions at that time.
As a point of fact, it is nice that Mrs Tebow got to decide to keep her child, regardless of the circumstances of the choice. That's all that those of us who are pro-choice want.
But like all right-wing memes, it sounds good until you lift the rock...
