1) The viewing public expects nothing less than ultraviolence.
2) The game itself is brutal and the season is long.
3) Steroids are the most effective (short term) means to recover from injury.
4) Players have a limited window to earn a living. Their pay may well be contractually guaranteed through injury but their earning potential is nonetheless jeapordized.
The incentives to use PEDs are structural, no?

@55. No argument there. Social work in the U.S. is a piecemeal solution at best. That said, Andrew S. supports his arguments with unsubstantiated statistics and imples that behavior can be accurately predicted and/or explained in purely racial or ethnic terms.
