I have no problem with twinks (who I am not into anyway) keeping their sexuality among their peers, but what freaks me out are the countless gay men over 40 or even over 50, who spend all their time and energy trying to land a 22 year-old, and then go home alone. Meanwhile, there are tons of very hot guys over 40 who think their life is over because they can't land a twink, but they never give a thought to people their own age. I sometimes cruise on-line; I am a youthful 59 years old. I can't believe the number of guys over 40 -- or even my age -- who reject me with "sorry, but I'm only into younger guys. It's just a preference". I liked Dan's advice years ago to a guy over 50 who couldn't understand why he couldn't attract "hairy, muscular, swarthy guys under thirty". Dan said, and I remember the quote verbatim, "If YOU wouldn't date YOU, how can you expect anyone else to want you?" Sorry for the rant.

What a sad and touching story. Thank god it has a happy ending. But there are many, many LGBT people living in Iran and countries like it who fear for their lives every day. I feel powerless and frustrated when I think about their plight. We need the US and other Western countries to do more to help these people.

WOW! IA sat next to a famous musician. Bet they couldn't sleep that night from the excitement.

I have a LOT of health problems and I need to sit down. I use a cane. I recently went home to visit (NYC) for 10 days and took the subway a LOT. Many, many people offered me a seat, and I never had to stand. Not even once.

I feel for IA.

I had a "friend" years ago who used to insist I read his dreadful, unfunny plays. He was convinced he would one day become rich and famous off these truly awful gay "comedies". I am always honest and when he would ask for my input, I would tell him the truth - they all sucked. Finally, one day I showed him a draft of a story I was writing, hoping against hope that he might sense some of what he was lacking. He turned up a week later; "You're going to be upset with me..." he stammered. He had taken my story and rewrote it as a remarkably bad play. To make a long story short, I haven't had to read one of his plays since.

CACAS's boyfriend almost definitely wants out of the relationship. The sex worker deserves an acknowledgement of his grief as much as anybody else. Great column.

Should have told the guy that the kids were on enough COCAINE and MALT LIQUOR that they would never notice if they were hit by a car

Sorry 1-6, but I empathize with IA on this one. I was at a concert once by my favorite performer, who I don't get to see often, and there was a crowd of left-over happy-hour drinkers standing directly behind me, talking load enough to ruin the show for me for several minutes. I would have moved, but the place was packed and there was no place to go. These drunks clearly had no interest in seeing the show. It did end happily, however, when I politely asked them to keep it down and they not only apologized, they actually stopped talking for the balance of the show.

I think that this week's IA needs to sit down with her/his friend Magic Pussy and have a heart to heart talk over some MALT LIQUOR and COCAINE.

The people here who know nothing about alcoholism make me laugh. It's a disease and the main symptom is denial. On the average, most drunks don't realize they have a problem until way into their lives and many never get help. When they do, they are often in their 40's or 50's and believe me, they suffer for their past wrongs. I'm in my 24th year of sobriety and I can't tell you how many times I wished I'd stop drinking years before I did. As a gay man, I never had children, but I know tons of drunks who did. It's always hard but it's never too late. And I've seen a lot (and I mean a LOT) of people who didn't make it and died of alcoholism or an overdose, often before they reached thirty. Nasty disease, but you cannot help someone who doesn't want to stop.
