The link for the Myanmar story is the same as for the LA Times detention center story.

What, it's hard to tell the guy to say "I don't feel attracted to you because of how you look?" I mean, sure, that's actually hard to say to one's partner. But it isn't hard to instruct someone else to say that.

@5 It might be the changes that the oil boom has created. Little ol' ND has long been a place where white people actually ask other white people what they are (Lutheran? Catholic? German? Swedish? etc) because the differences in whiteness actually matter there. Now, with young men from everywhere in the rest of the country flooding in and twisting the economics of the entire state, they are having some trouble. So it doesn't surprise me that this particular backlash is occurring at this particular moment, even though there are many other states which have a greater concentration of shittier people.

I can't like him since the first role I saw him in was in The Kids Are All Right and I thought he was an absolute scumbag. Unfair? Yes. I can put my feelings aside though and acknowledge the Ruffalovin' of others.

All right, I'm late to the party, but I don't think this dude's pickyness is as unworkable as Dan does. He needs to do several things:
-Go after athletes and/or women who weightlift. Join a mixed weightlifting class or something. Even women who are physically small and "weak" looking will look pretty fucking impressive after you see them in action. Female bodies can do a lot but not look like much because they don't bulk up like Ahnold.
-Get an agnostic or atheist woman who is respectful of history and culture and she'll let you raise the kid Jewish. If, say, she is a grad student in the humanities she'll be likely to understand why your heritage matters to you to pass on to your kids and she'll also hit the "intellectual" criterion. What makes a person Jewish isn't their biological parentage (unless you are an Orthodox piece of shit).
-Be extremely flexible about the "nerdy" qualifier. Nerds are fucking IN right now. Maybe she hasn't read all the comics but she's seen all the comic book movies? Introduce it to her. She likes Settlers of Cataan and Dominion but hasn't played other board games? Play them together. She enjoys reading books about biology but not physics? Roll with it, maybe get her to watch a physics documentary every once in a while. Fuck, dude, there are so many ways to be nerdy and so many fun date things about nerdery that this is barely a limitation.

@3 I know it is a lost cause to argue with you, but I'll just say one thing: the federal support for Civil Rights reforms didn't occur because people suddenly wanted to make the system fair. Come on! Nazi Germany's governance structure was nothing like the US's! Why would Americans have to "fix" anything (the racists would have said)? No, it was Cold War politics.
Every single racist incident was 100% legit ammunition for Soviet claims that capitalists, and Americans, were ethically abhorrent and just itching to grind the world's black and brown peoples under their boots. Declassified evidence shows that Dean Acheson in the Truman Administration was particularly concerned about the optics of white violence, an interest continued by the Eisenhower Administration. Kennedy was a dick and didn't really care about Civil Rights except in a calculated, which-position-brings-me-votes way, but Johnson did and his government was the fulcrum to moving Civil Rights law enforcement beyond the massive pissing match which was the Cold War.
I'm sure this will simply rev you up into extra bouts of crazy, malinformed revisionism, but I had to.
