Centrists Rule the World today commented on Hedge Fund Manager Hansen Hedges His Bets, Cuts Backup Deal to Move NBA Kings to Seattle.
This isn't clever at all. Hansen's going to get a begrudging welcome and no support from his fellow owners if by some miracle he manages to force his deal through. Bennett was in bed with Stern. Hansen is on the outside looknig in. The owners know he's going to lose money. The NBA's economics only work if you rape the community for arena funds, which Hansen (to his credit) didn't do. This is exactly why no one should be cheering or this offer to work. We are better off without the NBA an its mafia-like business model.

I disagree with boycotting the NBA, but only because I stopped watching years ago. Nobody around here should have been watching in the first place, but then I don't think anyone should have been in favor of bringing the NBA back. I'm GLAD they screwed us again. It only proved what I already knew - that the NBA is incapable of dealing in good faith.

Centrists Rule the World today commented on Seattle Needs to Shame the "Real Life Superheroes" Into Retirement.
I have two ideas:
- start a campaign to recognize real life superheroes, the unmasked folks who help others and don't stand by when people are in need. Could even just be those who call the cops or fire department. That would take the cachet and spotlight away from the jackasses in tights while more properly celebrating the spirit they ostensibly uphold.
- start a legal fund to file civil suits on behalf of anyone pepper-sprayed or otherwise harassed by Fodor & his wannabes and who isn't subsequently charged with a crime. Defending himself against even one or two valid lawsuits will put him out of business. He doesn't have a.) money, b.) supporters with money, or c.) an army of supporters big enough to raise money.

Additional thought - a lot of the comments here have an ugly racial undertone, more or less overt. This article seemed to make people uncomfortable, so kudos to Charles for that...exposing us for the hypocrites we really are.

This article had something for everyone - the Mudede haters, the Mudede fans and the folks like me somewhere in the middle.

A reasonable point hiding underneath layers of horrible, horrible writing? Ding, ding, ding!!!
If he'd just written this as a first person account of what it's like to be part of a racial minority living in a predominantly minority neighborhood and how he feels about white architecture that is imposed on that neighborhood and that he views as being informed by a spirit of misguided liberal do-goodism, this could actually be a good article.
He's got a point. This is one of the most segregated and most liberal cities in America. There is something intellectually dishonest about that city celebrating diversity with a Caucasian caricature of that diversity without actually doing anything to help minorities become a part of the divided city.
Unfortunately, there's also something intellectually dishonest about using Frederic Jameson and Claude Levi-Strauss to make some desperate plea to validate your emotions (which, as emotions, don't need external legitimacy - just enough research to make sure the facts they're in reference to are accurate).
Seriously, editors, Charles could use just a little of your help.
