Aug 10 spaceapple commented on Why NIMBYs And Their Haters Can’t Offer a Deep Solution to the Seattle’s Growing Housing Crisis: Part Three.
I'm really enjoying this series of posts, Charles! I'm normally not even a fan of yours, but it's funny how all these comments seem to focus on the problem in terms of local supply and demand, exactly missing your point.

If you are put off by weed, don't partner with a stoner. End.

Finally, we can live in a country where a WOMAN bombs the shit out innocents in the Middle East and takes bribes from Wall Street. I'll hold onto this joyful feeling as long as I can.

I had a cyclist co-worker, great guy, but he did frequently tell stories of confrontation with drivers, and seemed to enjoy telling those stories.

I think everyone is being unduly harsh on the LW. They've been married for 15 years, it's not like he just got bored all of a sudden. Presumably he DOES care about his wife's feelings, or I'd be surprised they lasted that long.

Also, his horniness sounds really, really extreme. Is it possible that her hormone imbalance is having an effect on his libido (and his emotions)?

@8 - if this is Last Days' replacement, then The Stranger is truly a sad shadow of what it used to be.

Seriously, watching what's happening to The Stranger is like watching a friend implode on meth or something. "You used to be so cool.."

School shootings seem to happen overwhelmingly in public schools, which is a pretty strong argument for sending your kid to private school if you can, social implications be damned.
Sep 3, 2015 spaceapple commented on The Life and Death of Amazon Is the Life and Death of Seattle.
@10 asks an extremely interesting question-- given that most Amazon employees (the high tech ones, anyway) last less than 2 years at Amazon, what will they all do when they leave, and how will that affect Seattle?
Aug 17, 2015 spaceapple commented on What You Need to Know About the New York Times' Amazon Story.
I worked for Amazon in 2000 as a seasonal customer support representative (Before they shipped all those jobs to India) It was one of the worst jobs I've ever had.

My experience was similar in many ways to the articles I've read recently-- even after you had the job, they made you feel like you had to work to keep the job ( which was weird, because it was only a 3 month contract) They constantly showed me metrics about how efficient I was and how I could do better. If you were late 3 times you were fired.

There was a bonus we would get (like $200) if we lasted the entire length of our contract. At the end of my contract, they told me and about 5 others that we had done such a great job that they were extending our contract. Then they fired me a few days before the end of my *new* contract and didn't give me the bonus, because I was terminated early.

Fuck Amazon. With a P/E ratio over 800, the company is ridiculously overvalued, and I dream of the day the stock tanks.

I've always enjoyed reading FWA and agree with the other commenters that this is a shitty way to dismiss a longtime and much-loved contributer to The Stranger.
