I have nothing to be gained by background checks.
In fact, I might even think them a good idea.
But the reality is that NO back ground check would have prevented Sandy Hook or any other school shooting. The come across as nothing more than feel good well we did something.

You sort of beat me to it, although I take exception to pinning 'banning' on Liberals. How about gay marriage, building mosques, creationism... you get the point. Banning is the knee jerk reaction by most non rational people.
