commented on Was It Worth It, Seattle City Council?
I’d say from the current Council’s perspective it probably was worth it, they got rid of McGinn and only lost Conlin. Two years is a long time in politics, we won’t know if it was worth it until we see who runs in 2015. I hope the voters purge the council of those who don’t produce and who aren’t responsive, but again 2 years is a long time in politics.
commented on The Adverse Impacts of Genetically Engineered Foods—A Case for Labeling
As is stated in this letter the “science” that “proves” GMO’s aren’t safe are done by industry backed scientist. This is the same sort of science that proved that smoking cigarettes weren’t harmful. This is the same sort of science that has stated that global warming is not caused by human activity. Industry backed studies have a remarkable ability to back the funders preexisting opinion.
Just as you have every right to glom down all the GMO packed goodies you want, I have the right not to. Labeling is good for everyone.
It’s a shame that our Congress is so bought and paid for by Monsanto that this is even an issue at the state level.
commented on Serving Drinks/Food/Beef Jerky in Mason Jars: Allow or Disallow?
@#20 .. exactly thank you ... I’ve just stopped ordering anything to drink at Skillet .. I REFUSE to drink a cocktail or even worse a glass of wine from a jar .. seriously Skillet, get some vintage looking diner juice glasses anything but the jars ... I’ve never been to a real old school diner that used jars as drinking glasses, have you?

There was this show actually about something and everyone went to a show about a coffee shop being torn down instead.
commented on Seattle Has the Worst Drivers
When I moved here in 1993 I was shocked at how bad the drivers were .. now many, many years and many new residents from other places later, the drivers here still suck. Maybe it’s the water?
Washington drivers don’t like to stop for pedestrians, signal for a turn with soft turns apparently presenting some sort of dilemma, don’t know how to merge, seems to think that in-city speed limits don’t apply to them ... cell phones and SUVs have only made things worse.
I walk as much as I can, I’m not brave enough to ride my bike.
