The sentiment I'm seeing, which sounds right to me, is that Superman doesn't kill as a rule, but he has killed, Zod notably, and let others die. He doesn't walk around just torching everybody with heat vision, but vanquishing an enemy which is simply unstoppable otherwise doesn't seem completely out of character.

I just thought it was a great movie.

@5 I'm willing to forgive Michelle Shocked, but first it wouldn't be out of line for her to apologize. Instead she just insists she was misunderstood, she's being discriminated against, etc. And then she pulls stunts like playing a free concert in the yard of the woman who owns the cafe where she was going to play in White Center. More of an antagonistic bullshit move than an apology. And now both her and the SF Examiner are giving the finger to one of the biggest pride celebrations in the country. Fuck them.

John Oliver is great, but watching him highlights how much of the show is in the writing. Although Oliver puts his own spin on everything I can imagine Stewart doing exactly the same script. Still, he's great. I'm really enjoying it and wouldn't be sad to hear that he was the full time host.

It's great that a temporary fix has gone in so fast. The struggling businesses in Mt. Vernon and Burlington will welcome it.

Unfortunately I understand the temporary span is only wide enough for one lane in each direction and the speed limit will be reduced across it. It will also have weight restrictions which will prevent trucks from crossing so heavy freight traffic will still have to use a detour.

Now it will be interesting to see how the larger problem is addressed. There is little room in the current I-5 route for a new bridge to be built parallel to the existing bridge. Replacing just the damaged section would require closing the bridge altogether again and would maintain the "obsolete" status of the whole structure. Where will the money come from for the permanent fix?

I take Obama at his word, but even if all he says is true the program is nothing close to "transparent". It is about as opaque as the nuclear launch sequence.

I can go down to the courthouse here and sit in the courtroom or I can review the record of just about any case. Unless there is some way for an ordinary citizen like me to review the FISA court documents it is nowhere close to transparent.

The elections for the first district positions won't be until 2015. There is plenty of time to fix the public financing bill.

I'm sad but still hopeful. Landmark's sale was the best thing to happen to the Metro and Uptown theaters. Under new management both theaters have been renovated and given new life.

@44 There are three types of heat transfer. There is direct radiated heat from the elements, particularly when broiling. The hot air in the oven heats through convection, which can be enhanced by increasing the humidity in thd oven. And, direct contact with the rack or pan, stone, steel, etc. heats through conduction. Each oven has its own mix of the three. Presumably the idea is to recreate the characteristics of a brick oven at home.

No energy can be lost in a stove. Any excess heat will eventually warm the kitchen.

I used to this coffee shop near my house that just seemed to have random hours. It got so one of us would run ahead to see if the shop was open since if it was closed we'd have to jump in a car to go to the next nearest. After a while, we just stopped checking altogether. And a while later the coffee shop was gone.

If anybody wants to open a coffee shop in Manchester you will have at least one seriously addicted customer.
