@46 On the running to the house thing I think you could argue that if her parents started all this because of the homosexuality angle. Then she likely went to the family she was 100% sure is ok with lesbians when the shit hit the fan.

But, I can understand you raising your eyebrows at that, could speak to emotional maturity in the younger girl which doesn't really bode well for the defense.

In the end though I don't think you can get around the parents sitting on the info and then pressing charges instead of telling the other parents that they were uncomfortable with the relationship and proceeding from there. A pretty clear sign of prejudice and general assholery.

@71 Same thing happened to me trying to catch the 49 south at 45th and University. Checked my phone and saw it was going to be 45 minutes because of delays so I just grabbed an Uber.

@12 How do you think this is going to work when we try to use the study on people that actually are opposed to the legislation or maybe skeptical of it? If I can call it into question pre-coffee than they are likely to eviscerate it. I'm just begging for some better ammunition here.

@7 I TOTALLY agree with you. That is one of the many things we could talk about when it comes to the intersection of gender and employment. As @9 states these aren't issues you can just take an average with, you have to actual put in some leg work to get a data set worth actually talking about instead of one that makes for a good press release.

It's lazy statistical analysis like this that pisses me off the most. If they were to just do the work properly we could all have a reasonable discussion but instead they are lazy and just go for something totally useless in order to grab headlines. There's no way these people are dumb enough to actually believe this is a legitimate data point so they are just assuming we're all dumb enough to eat it for the press.

@3 I always wonder about that with these studies. One other thing I've been curious about is whether the gap (to whatever extent there is one) develops over time or is more or less present right from the start. Now that would be interesting (but have to be huge and quite long to control for people moving between industries, having families, differences in promotions, moving to new but similar jobs, moving regions etc.).

@5 Also that isn't the kind of thing that normal size people say in a normal voice to sound threatening so I would have read that as yelling either way.
