3- there's a new surface highway in addition to the tunnel being built where the viaduct sits now, not "public space". there will be a slightly wider strip along the side to plant some trees or widen the sidewalk (or just replace parking spots from underneath the viaduct). basically the exact same design as the surface/transit option without the transit.

36- Who is censoring what? The theater group chose to produce their own play instead of licensing an existing one they didn't like for various reasons.

Even if it was angry trans activists who convinced the theater group to change their production (which it was NOT), that would be exactly free speech in action.

The foundation of the principle of free speech is the power to criticize to affect change. No definition of free speech means someone is obligated to perform a specific play regardless of their values.

An analogy would be if there was a play with monologues about marriage, but told stories of traditional rich, white, heterosexual marriages and a couple terrible depictions of abusive marriages by POC. If a college decided to put on their own play instead that included interracial marriage, gay marriage, open marriage, poly relationships, and other diverse marriage experiences, would that be censorship by gay activists? I'd say if someone made that claim, they'd be exhibiting homophobia.

This is about transphobes blaming trans people for something that didn't even happen. It's absurd.

The Vagina Monologues was not "cancelled" due to some type of trans outrage. The play has been criticized by feminists for many years for many reasons -- focus on experiences of wealthy white women, gender essentialism, trans-exclusivity, and even pro-child abuse sentiments.

A student theater group just decided not to do it this year. Instead, they're making their own ambitious production that will use fresher ideas and a broader range of experiences.

There is no ban on the word "vagina" on the new production or anywhere else. One anonymous blog commenter said it was banned, which is reactionary fear-mongering and not truth. The word will be used presumably many, many times in the new production. There's no reason you can't talk about vaginas without intentionally hurting people.

It's very telling when people jump to the conclusion that trans people are a threat to everyone else. It's the very definition of transphobia (fear of trans people).

37: Since white people seem to only think other white people can decide what's racist, here's a former Charlie Hebdo writer clearly explaining why it has become a severely racist, white supremacist, Islamophobic rag in the past 10 years.

If you want to actually listen to people who are directly affected by racial and religious hatred, there are hundreds of Muslims, Jews, and brown people across the Internet also clearly explaining why Charlie Hebdo is clearly and obviously racist. But, by not being white I know they do not represent the "objective truth" to you.

28/29: Racist logic- "My extreme racism is just proving that racism is bad." Give me a break. Insulting brown people or Islamic people or Jewish people or women are not innocent rhetorical tools. If you are defending something that you would only ever personally show to other white people, you know you're being a white supremacist.

28: I thought of posting a personal experience blog link and then an Al Arabiya link, but you can never win against bullshit respectability politics. It happened. It was in every European news outlet. Find your favorite, it's not my job to find your favorite for you.

the current marches are intended to show solidarity for freedom of expression

France is the only country in the world to literally OUTLAW pro-Gaza protests. Six months ago. They also famously banned hijabs in schools (including parents picking up their kids) and niqabs anywhere in public. It's only when white people are drawing brown people like monkeys that they seem to care about freedom of expression.

Annapurna on broadway is excellent, with many great options for GF and vegans (or both combined) listed on the menu.

Vegan options are not very limited in Seattle -- it has one of the best vegan food scenes in this hemisphere, maybe second only to Portland. It's rarely covered by The Stranger, so there are alternate sources of info.

I recommend using happycow to find restaurants if you want a certain neighborhood or certain type of food, it's constantly updated by vegetarians/vegans. http://www.happycow.net/north_america/us…

Veganscore is a great Seattle vegan blog that stays on top of the Seattle vegan food scene. http://www.veganscore.com

3- People who bought this crap aren't going to turn around and buy meat at Wal-Mart or McDonald's. People who buy cheap meat do so out of necessity. People who buy expensive meat do it out of willful malice and destruction. Rich people have countless healthy, sustainable, humane options. Paying to have a young cow killed to eat its muscles isn't one of them, no matter how expensive it is.
