IDGAF, I am a 32 year old lady who feels exactly the same way you do about relationships. I have always been vocal about my preferences with my family and friends and have been very fortunate to receive their support. No nagging about grandchildren or unwanted setups :) Thanks to Dan for highlighting the fact that choosing to be single is a legitimate choice and should be respected.

@8: @5 was clearly joking. Lighten up and develop a sense of humor.

I second @17. Nothing feels as good as Crocs when you have certain knee and foot problems because they're so excellent at shock absorption. Some of the new sandals they've put out are actually not that hideous, thank god. I'm still embarrassed to wear them, but the pain relief is worth it.

@135 - I believe Dan advised CWIA to not have children because of potential legal complications, not because he feared CWIA would abuse his own children. If CWIA has children in his care and then discusses his problem with a therapist, the therapist would be required by law to report him to the authorities even though he has committed no offense.

@24 I can see the similarity -- the advice to subvert one's natural given urges -- but there is a difference. In the situation you posed, the other party is assumed to be a fully consenting adult, whereas in a situation like CWIA's, the other party is a child. I think there's a significant difference in trying to keep someone from engaging in sex with an on-board adult of their own gender and trying to keep a person from having sex with a child, i.e. a person who is not physically, mentally, or emotionally mature enough yet to give consent. It's all about consent.

How in the world did you manage to maintain that level of naivete into what I assume are your late forties? Most women have developed a much lower tolerance for bullshit by that point.

I've just witnessed a similar situation play out with a close friend who had been married for ten years. His wife made contact with an ex-lover for whom she still had strong feelings and what followed were the two ugliest years I've ever seen. Their marriage eventually ended, but not before he had lost nearly all of his sanity and self-respect and had alienated most of the people close to him. Save yourself and your loved ones a whole lot of grief and suffering and DTMFA. Get out while your dignity is still intact.
