Supremes Revive Obamacare Suit.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but do any insurance companies even cover abortions? My understanding is that they are overwhelmingly paid for out of pocket, to the tune of $500 - $800. And interestingly a 'medical' abortion (induced miscarriage by pill) costs the same as a 'surgical' abortion, because in case the pill doesn't do the trick the woman will need to go get a surgical AB anyway.
By the way, next time an antichoicer is yammering on about their tax dollars paying for abortions, kindly remind them that that is not the case. Since Roe vs. Wade, Congress has passed the Hyde Amendment in every budget appropriations bill, which stipulates that no federal funds may be allocated for abortions.
I feel like I should repeat that. It is the law in this country that no federal funds are used for abortion procedures. Anyone who says otherwise is lying.

Savage Love.
The difference, Crinoline (@24) is bloody obvious:
Gay men seek consensual sex and love with adults. Pedophiles by their nature and the law are not seeking consensual sex. If they act on their desires, they risk doing lasting emotional and physical harm to the children they abuse. If you see that as an inconsequential distinction, then there is something very wrong with your moral compass, not Dan's.

I would argue that it was UAA's girlfriend who was being the sexist one in that unsavory exchange. I can't believe anyone in their right mind would demand their lover undergo elective surgery; how entitled must be her worldview! It sort of sounds like some asshole who wants his girlfriend to get a boob job. Glad you flushed that turd, UAA.
For those curious about female circumcision, the WHO breaks it down well:
http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheet…
As mentioned upthread, I'd say that the closest female equivalent of male circumcision would be a clitoridectomy that involves only the removal of the clitoral hood (as opposed to the more common procedure of removing the entire clitoris - shudder). It is nowhere near as disfiguring and painful as infibulation, which I would guess was what Dan was referring to.
What's interesting is that both male and female circumcision are visited upon innocent children by their parents for cultural reasons. We are all savages inside.

SL Letter of the Day: Power Running Low.
As Roadflare pointed out way upthread:
"My rule of thumb is if what I'm doing would bother me if he was in my place, I don't do it."
Also known as the Golden Rule.
I'd just like to second that it's something worth remembering in this situation - and pretty much all relationship situations, period. I'm ashamed to say that I came by this mindset a bit late, and deeply. deeply. deeply. regret it.

And thank you for mentioning QUIM! I'd forgotten about that one - has anyone else read The Dress Lodger by Sheri Holman? That's what introduced me to the term. What a fucked story line!

SL Letter of the Day: Name That Poon.
This has been one of my favorite Savage Love threads ever - who'd have thought the nomenclature for [insert your preferred female genitalia descriptor here] would generate such a raucous discussion?
My personal favorites are: MANGO (juicy, sweet, sexy, silly) and KUMA (that was a new one to me and I love the mouthfeel of it, although it also makes me think of kumbaya, which is an odd connotation).
As for what I actually use: Nether-regions/bits/parts in semipolite company, vagine or vagina (but always in a half-joking manner) with my beau, and pussy or cunt in my head during fantasytime. But never out loud!

SL Letter of the Day: Pity Fucking Around.
For the sake of playing Devil's Advocate (I personally agree with Dan's advice and the general bent of the comments so far), a lot of weight is being given to the "another year or so to get through" comment. In its current context it's easy to jump on as horribly insensitive, but anyone who's watched a loved one die of cancer can understand that it's an incredibly painful and emotionally draining experience. It's very common for people to feel relief when their loved one's illness and suffering are finished. The one who remains still faces a long sad road of grief, but they can begin the process of healing and regain a more normal and peaceful existence. Perhaps that's more along the lines of what Cancer Hubby meant ...
As for CANCER herself, GGG does not stand for Greedy, (un)Grateful, and Gullible.

Worn Out.
I am so delighted to learn of Kirk's existence and that of his line of undies. I love to find sexy and unique briefs for my man - and they are really, really, really hard to find.
For those complaining about price - you'd see that same tag on a pair of higher-end 'designer' briefs that have been manufactured en masse for cents on the dollar in miserable southeast asian or caribbean sweat shops. I'd venture that Scouts gives you much more bang for your buck, and at a much lower social/environmental cost.
I'd love to see the concept expanded upon. My favorite find brief-wise was in a little boutique in argentina - incredible one-of-a-kind modal briefs in a colorful masculine print AND contrasting fabric on the inside. Swoon. I have spent years trying to find similarly creative underoos. Scouts come the closest by a long shot.
Clearly I think way too much about undergarments.

No Human Should be Uncontacted.
It is a real gift that the Brazilian government lets this unnamed tribe remain sovereign unto itself. If they venture into 'civilization', let it be on their own terms. And how can you speak so categorically about their ideas and state of darkness?
I really really hope you are being facetious.
