The garage isn't saved. The project will have to apply for a new approval with a more acceptable design. The garage had long been deemed non-contributing which is historical preservation speak for they covered up or removed all the old-world charm a while ago. The time to save the garage came and went 6 or 7 years ago without much of a whimper. As other commenters have said, this isn't about saving historical structures (the appellants do want development).

Did Ansel report the "no plates" claim without looking into the tinted rear windshield, where in plain view a dealer plate might be posted? Because it's causing a lot of ridiculous speculation.

Just because something costs developers money doesn't mean it's bad. They also have to go through costly design review for the architectural aesthetic impact of the building. This cost is also passed along to renters. Should be also jettison design review, in your eyes? What else can we do to help line the pockets of developers?
Jun 1, 2015 Eastpike commented on It's Official: Smoking Is About to Be Banned in Seattle Parks.
This is hardly new territory. Most west coast cities have such bans, including Portland, Tacoma, and Bellingham. I've had to take cigarette butts from my 2yo's hands while watching her at the cal Anderson play equipment. Will it work? I don't know, but at least now I can tell someone to please put it out, and actually have cause.

Lauryn Hill / Fugees.
Red hot chili peppers.

Loved these artists, yet would be glad if I never had to hear them again.

Re: all the comments about the waterfront Seattle project that are seemingly trying to tell us what there will be (a trolley? A highway? No transit?): you know this information is really easily obtained, right? Because you're wrong. During rush hour, metro will run fifty buses an hour on Alaskan way. It's going to be a transit corridor. And the trolley is gone, forever. Look at the designs, they are publicly available (and you can attend public comment meetings if you don't like it: this comment thread is not where you get your needs met).

"suspicious fog"? Wait, are you gonna start with the whole government is spraying us crap or something? What's suspicious about the fog?

@3, the distinction that the sinking is not caused by the digging is important to note for the sake of clarity here. The sinking is certainly caused by the overall project, but since digging was stopped they really had to clarify that it wasn't the direct cause.

All of those buildings have survived big earthquakes with major settling, they're going to survive this megaproject. Yes, it was a bad idea. But it's not Boston. It's going to be ok, guys.

There are engineers that "make the call" if the viaduct isn't safe enough to keep open. Who cares that they aren't named. If I were an engineer, I sure wouldn't want to be interviewed by such obviously religious angst against my work.
