commented on Council Begs Mayor to Stop Blocking SPD Oversight Monitor
The process of building consensus for reform gets completely short-circuited if any party gets a veto over continuing. At best, that's what the mayor is doing here; letting obstructors derail the process.
It looks even more like he's doing the obstructing himself, though.

commented on Either Romney Was Lying to GOP Base During the Primaries...
Mitt's a good illustration of the downside of having the core principle of one's self-concept be "I am a good person" when you live in a bubble that protects you from all evidence to the contrary.
Result: nearly narcissistic levels of rationalization and self-referential logic.

That was an entirely respectful and civil way to handle someone who had nothing more to say than, "Nuh-uh!!"
And despite how completely unreasonable and disrespectful Fischer and his ilk are, we're better served by remaining civil when we cut them off. And cut them off we should, probably sooner than 5 minutes.

commented on Here Come Mitt's Tax Returns
It looks like the Romney campaign has a sense of nostalgia for the times when all they had to worry about was the optics of his income and taxes.
I doubt they've done any strenuous amending; they just decided that the furor over what's in there is preferable to the more recent slams they've been getting from fellow conservatives. The returns will probably serve to solidify the impression he's trying to give his plutocratic backers; I'm one of you.
