Is it really a novelty to live in a neighborhood where 911 is on speed dial? Is it hypocritical for The Stranger to tow the counter-culture policy of cop hating only to use them, thus demonstrating their value in this article? While I appreciate the author's sense of adventure, this piece has the slight odor of Rich White Girl Syndrome, complete with an explanation of why we white people act so entitled all the time.

Is it me or do the phrases "I would like to think that this is the 21st century..." and "...although I have slept over, I banned anything below the belt..." seem contradictory, to say nothing of using the term "petting"?

Are we who identify with the same gender with which we were "assigned" at birth allowed to register a complaint about the "cis" term?

@28: Someone "like me"? (That sounds like a "you people" statement?) And you're wrong. The jury also saw it that way. I don't defend Zimmerman--who had about 100 ways out that didn't involve the use of a gun--but when the event is portrayed inaccurately, or sensational arguments from emotion are employed--17 years old, 5'11", 170 pounds = "child"?--you're no better than Fox News.

21: Only Zimmerman knows why Martin was killed. His official position is that Martin attacked him. If that's the case, and he felt his life was in danger, then the killing was justified according to law. In order for a second degree murder conviction to stick the prosecution would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt otherwise. (The rule of law would also apply were Zimmerman black and Martin white.) There are a number of examples of whites killing blacks because they were black (and vice versa) so I don't understand why something as muddy as the Z/M case would need to be cited. You know, unless this is an emotion-based appeal not really concerned with facts, accuracy, truth, etc.

"...it died on the day George Zimmerman was acquitted of killing Trayvon Martin..."

Zimmerman wasn't acquitted of killing Martin because he wasn't charged with killing Martin. He was charged with second degree murder. Because the prosecution was unable to convince a jury Martin was killed in self defense as defined by Florida law Zimmerman was acquitted.

I realize that factual accuracy can sometimes dampen an emotional appeal, but when you're inaccurate right out of the gate you lose the part of your audience that cares about truth. The concerns are legitimate and stand on their own without spin. Check your bias.

@18: Were it not for the LW's use of the word "guy" I too would have thought the LW is female. The application of lotion post-shower and the expectation to glean a paragraph of information out of a single sentence is, in my experience, something you're more likely to encounter with a woman than a man.

While I agree that CACAS is due an apology from her b/f (once he's over his grieving process) I get a vibe that CACAS is a bit of a control freak. Demanding an apology from a woman for using her b/f without permission & demanding that he quit drinking after one drunken escapade are two examples. Is she too demanding? I think so. But her b/f is acting like a dick so maybe it's called for. As is often the case, we're missing a lot of details that would give us more context.

@63: Well said and thanks for sharing. I too read the letter with a bit of disgust but it takes only a very short period of self-reflection and honesty to admit that, to a degree, we're all snobs when it comes to choosing whom we are willing to date.

Age tempers this snobbishness, but we all draw a line. I've known many a woman whose line involved financial security and quite a few guys who would dismiss a potential partner on not just appearance, but very specific traits.

I imagine Dan wouldn't have any difficulty agreeing with a guy who said he wouldn't date fatties, after he extended the usual disclaimer (at arm's length, holding his nose).

@CLIT: Have you checked the back of her throat?

RE LOFD: I'm surprised no one has mentioned the possibility that this guy is on the spectrum. His obvious lack of empathy and the detached manner in which he describes his predicament reminds me of a guy I knew--young, thin, relatively good looking finance major who, though intelligent, always seemed off-putting and unintentionally confrontational.
