If you're surprised that the "wealthy white" (am assuming you mean conservative) 46th didn't go for Burgess, you've never attended any 46th meetings. Next to the 43rd, the 46th is the most liberal LD, and thoroughly Democratic, unlike Burgess.

his ex-partner took out the loan, and put this guy on the deed. It's technically not his loan, which is perhaps why the bank won't accept money from him. Banks are a) stupid, b) have ridiculously-illogical rules. They're also venal, but sometimes their stupidity trumps their venality.

@11, there must be some state law about only one charge per person raped, no matter how many times; otherwise, it's just crazy.

Terming bus service a "right" isn't the way to frame it; that will just bring snide comments. What should be a right is what's done in European countries: all public transportation is reliably tax-funded. "Tax me!" should be a button everyone wears.

I just cooked a sweet potato in the microwave, instead of sticking it in the oven for 45 minutes and thereby using a hell of a lot more electricity. Oh the horror. Pollan is a good writer and an in-person asshole.

@1, Minard misspoke. A University District religious congregation hosted Nickelsville, and many religious congregations have hosted Tent Cities 3 and 4 for over 10 years. Not all of them have been Christian churches. So Jesus doesn't have anything to do with this.

@1, why would that matter? This isn't a competition with other cities. Would it be OK if less people died in Seattle than died in other cities? Should we tell the friends of people who died, "Hey, sorry about your loss but we're better than XX city"?
