It's not a matter of choosing between Sawant's reaction being incoherent, or Mudede's. Can't it be both? Yes, it can, and is.

Trump, the Republicans, and various bad people, tried to do a bad thing. They failed, mostly due to the contradictions inherent in being Trump, Republicans, and/or bad people.

Regardless of why, or who gets the credit, it is a good thing that they did not do the bad thing The ones who wanted to do the bad thing were, to one degree or another, themselves bad. The ones who wanted to prevent the bad thing were, insofar as they did anything to make the bad thing not happen, less bad. Man of those opposed to the bad people doing the bad thing are themselves, to varying degrees, good. Which of the good people are the best people is not entirely clear, but that is not fully relevant within the scope of stopping the bad people from doing the bad thing.

This shit is just not that complicated. It takes longer to explain it than to just look with your eyes, and say, "Oh, yes. That would have been bad. It's good they failed."

Most ordinary people voted for Democrats.

It's not that Democrats failed. It's that the system is so skewed in favor of rich people and corporations that the Democrats need to do way more than just not fail. They have to win by a ridiculous margin in order to take power. A Democratic Senate or House majority requires a supermajority of Americans to vote for a Democratic Senator or Congresscritter. A supermajority must vote for a Democratic President, or else by default the Republicans get to rule.

It's still possible for Democrats to do that. But harping on how they failed and didn't do this and didn't do that ignores the built in advantage the Republicans always have.

If Democrats ran campaigns as shitty as Trump & Co, the Republicans would hold 90% of the seats and the Supreme Court and Presidency forever and always. Given how much more qualified Democrats generally are, we take for granted that they run circles around the drooling rubes that lead the Republicans.

But don't be a dick about it. Mediocre Republicans routinely win against above-average Democratic candidates and that remains total bullshit.

"Its a little too early to crow victory."

What the fuck are you talking about?

Do you think this is a game that ends all at once, when the clock runs out and the referee adds up the scores, and somebody gets a trophy? No. This is life. You win, you lose, you win, you lose, eventually you die, and everybody else goes on winning or losing.

Today Trump and Ryan defeated themselves, and that's something to celebrate. Tomorrow, there will be other shit. Life goes on.

Trump is going to have to tweet something really fucked up to distract everyone fro this.

It's a wise move.

Smile in your mugshot. Fix your hair. Dress well. Whatever is in your power, do it.

If you are exonerated, or pay your debt and move on, or live it down, or if you're guilty as hell and not sorry, or anything in between, it doesn't matter. There's no outcome where a sullen mugshot is preferable over a smiling mugshot. In any imaginable scenario, the sullen, whipped dog look in most mugshots doesn't help you. If you're going to have a photo of you spread all over, on a million websites, a photo whose copyright you have no control over, do whatever you can to look your best.

And if you are guilty, a mugshot that some on the internet disapprove of is the least of your worries.

If you're anything less than 100% in favor of whomever can WIN, then you're saying you'd rather have four more years of Trump unless you can get a womxn, poc, lgbtq prez. Fuck that.

Don't care if it's an old white man. Don't care if they're rich. Don't care if they're a talk show host or a CEO. Whatever it takes to win.

If you're telling me that we shouldn't ever compromise our lofty goals and deeply held values just for the sake of winning, then why the fuck did I vote for Hillary fucking Clinton of all people? I didn't like it, but I did it because winning matters. So now don't give me any shit if it turns out the one who can win is an old rich white man. Not saying it has to be an old white rich man, but if that's what it takes, I'm in. No reservations at all.
Mar 21 Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn commented on Call Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and Ask Them to Filibuster Gorsuch.
Nobody will explain what they would be saving the filibuster for if they are afraid the Republicans will take it away. If Republicans would take it away over Gorsuch, then why won't they do it over any other future nominee? If fear of losing it is going to hold the Democrats back, it's tantamount to not having a filibuster option at all.

The only reason the Republicans don't want to take it away is that they would miss it when they're out of power, and they might want to cling to some vestige of legitimacy. But those reasons are their own. Whether the Democrats use the filibuster or not has no bearing on their reasons for wanting to keep it.

So use it. If you can't use it now, then you can't use it ever.

If they install their Justice by removing the filibuster, after their Garland coup, that's just one more nail in the coffin of their illegitimate rule, from their popular vote loss to gerrymandering to Russian influence to Comey's shenanigans. It it worth it, to hang on to power for another year or two, and then have to answer to the voters?

Besides which, when Democrats get a Senate majority, Republicans would have no power at all. They couldn't say no to anything. What's not to like?

Block Gorsuch. If it works, great. If not, the consolation prize isn't so bad.

It's true that older people are quite safe drivers. They get injured a lot because their bodies are fragile, but they don't cause the crashes. Stop lying about old people. Stop lying about Millennials. Stop lying about other generations.

And it's not a question of whether Darcy was drunk. If she's a duck passenger, it's how drunk was she?
