More on 1412
Just a little editorializing on how important Gallery 1412 is…
As a space in a city, Gallery 1412 is remarkable for its musical diversity and constant risk-taking. Every time you attend a show at Gallery 1412, you are not going to see something you would see at the Tractor or some other standard club. You are not going to see bands that present accessible pop music. Take a deep breath, because that’s totally alright.
Gallery 1412 operates on a different plane of music and performance than what a lot of people who are not in art school are not used to. It presents these performances in a space that is all ages, with a sliding scale price rate, several days a week.
Gallery 1412 is an artistic utopia of a venue, and therefore Seattle can not afford to lose it. Please support the venue by attending its shows this weekend. At a place like 1412, your door admission payment actually makes a difference in its survival.
I would also like to mention that I attended a Valentine’s Day Fundraiser at at Gallery 1412 that may have been the most enjoyable fundraiser I have ever attended. 1412 people, if you read this: Have another bachelor auction!

1412 hosts some amazing shows that other venues overlook with clueless shrugs. Word has it that Jana Hunter is supposed to perform there in December- don't let this place slip through the cracks. Such an intimate space! We need 1412.
It sure would have been nice if they had bothered to reply to my emails when I recently contacted them about booking a couple great touring bands there. Would've been a great show that probably would have made them some cash. But maybe not replying to people who are interested in doing shows there is part of the reason why they're going under. Just something they might want to think about if they ever decide to open another venue.
Hey Greg:
What bands, and where did they end up playing? Were they bands that play any of these kinds of music: Avant Jazz, Electronic Experimental, Sexually Adventurous Gay Pop, Modern Classical, Bizarre Soundscape, or Quiet Metal from the Future? Because that's just a sampling of recent genres I have noticed at 1412. Like I said, it's not a typical venue, and they aren't typical bookers. Which is what makes it so great. If you are a regular rock band, go play somewhere else- there are plenty of places for you. Especially if your number one interest is making money at it.
Ari,
The show is with two great bands from the East coast on a great little independent label called Carpark. The bands are Beach House and Over The Atlantic. Sure, they play guitars and sing, but they also use synthesizers, drum machines, and computer generated effects - hardly what anyone would call a "regular rock band". And who said that my number one interest with this show is "making money at it"? That's a really snide and stupid comment, Ari. I mentioned that the show probably would have made Gallery 1412 some money because your post was about how they are suffering financially and might have to close. I am not making a cent off the show, and both bands will be more than happy if their tour just breaks even.
Here's more info about the show for anyone who's interested http://www.thestranger.com/lineout/2006/10/beach_house_at_conor.php

I'll second that endorsement; 1412 in many ways helped filled the void left behind by the Velvet Elvis. I really hope they aren't forced to close...
