He’s At the Top of the UK Charts

posted by on January 25 at 9:06 AM

And his name is Mika…

And I fucking love this song. But I would, wouldn’t I?

He played two secret shows in the United States this week; one in Minneapolis yesterday, one in LA Monday. If anyone out there saw one of Mika’s US shows, I’d love to hear about what he’s like in concert.

Wow, that's pretty amazing. Think he's ever heard any Queen? Who the hell is he? Where's he from? Ah, Lebanon. Funny thing about Myspace, it's not really about imparting information, is it? Apparently he just played two, count 'em, two, "secret US shows". This looks like a pretty well-orchestrated major-label hype bust-out. That's a pretty good song, though, isn't it?

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I submit to you this video as evidence as to why Dan Savage's privilages to post on music matters should be revoked.

Yeah, and we apparently need to ban all the music consumers in the UK from making comments too... since they sent this song at the top of the charts.

And that proves that the same people who bought Milli Vanilli, Ace of Base, and Vanilla Ice records are still out there.

He moves like Billy Squire.

Ouch, those Milli Vanilli barbs really sting, don't they? And so timely!

It's a great, great pop song, and I hope he sells a million here. It'll infuriate the meth addicts and retro-grunge heads and intricate-lead-guitar analysts, but that's one of the many pleasures of Pop.

You can't really hear the Nilsson in this one, but you can in "Billy Brown". I'm sure our Jeff here is a huge Nilsson fan, right?

@2, I feel exactly the opposite. Seems like every time Dan Savage says he "fucking loves" a band or song, it's right up my alley. Thanks, Dan, for exposing me to some awesome stuff this week!

Loved it. Definitely channeling Freddie Mercury. And yes, Dan, the eyes, the hair...you would. And so would I.

ooo, he's dreamy. he has a sort of gay john mayer thing going on. this song is my new guilty pleasure, about which i'm not actually feeling guilty at all. it's just a pleasure.

That's how the best tastes in music are determined. You figure out what someone loathsome likes and hate the fuck out of it. It's called thinking for yourself. It's very hip.

Reminds me a bit of the sass of Robbie Williams. Definitely feein' the Freddie Mercury. I really like it.

This guy is great. I really love the Grace Kelly song. Unfortunately, the rest of his album, 'Life in Cartoon Motion' isn't nearly as good but there's definitely a lot of great pop potential.

There must be some nifty discussions between the music purists at the Stranger and those other members *cough*Dan*cough* who actually enjoy a little semi-mindless pop.
Don't let the haters get you down, Dan. Be it from boy-bands to intelligent, well-thought out pop, fun music has a place in the world, liberal elites be damned. :)
On this song; I'm not sure I like it yet, but it IS a ton of fun. The waves of gay kept slapping me through the screen; I'm still not used to seeing mainstream music that doesn't suffer from or get censored by American homophobia, and being a butch gay guy I (sadly) still reflexively cringe a bit when I see grade-A sashaying like this. I AM, however, going to send the link to every friend I have, gay and straight, to share the joy.

Upon a re-hear, doesn't he expressly say he "tried a little Freddie?" Awesome.
