Grand Archives Sign to Sub Pop

How about some more Grand Archives news? As of last night, the band has signed to Sub Pop. Apparently the label also bought into the hype, just like the Stranger, Pitchfork, and mostly everybody who saw their one and only show a few weeks ago.

Not me though. I refuse to like ‘em or even listen to ‘em until their drummer tragically dies of liver failure, they break up under a haze of drugs and incriminations, and Mat Brooke waits a decade to reunite the band for a zillion-dollar comeback tour. Then I’m all-in.

Is that a photo of their new practice space/hangout? Way to go boys, way to go! Maybe by their 3rd show they can get Johnny Marr to join up. Fuck you haters! Straight to the top.

the amount of hate going on here with regard to grand archives is typical seattle bullshit.

their 4 song demo is strong and filled with lovely songs. their first show was proof that they can pull it off live. they are good dudes and longtime members of the community.

do not forget that, in addition to the number of hardworking bands these gentlemen have under their belts, mat brooke has a long history of exceptional musicianship.

sub pop would have signed carissa's wierd and were definitely interested. sub pop did sign band of horses, a band that mat contributed greatly to.

sub pop signing grand archives isn't hype. this is a local label recognizing a local band with a history of talent. don't hate the player, hate the game.

*Drinks cool-ade* must love everything the Stranger endorses ... or risk being ridiculed.

Hehehe.

Congrats to Jeff, Mat, Curtis and Ron.

Nice work.

kerri - do you have any insight into why carissa's wierd didn't sign to sub pop?

kerri - thanks for speaking out in defense of Grand Archives, somebody just had to make a stand. All this hatred is just so toxic. Let's all just grow beards, have a Pabst Blue Ribbon, and love each other goddamn it. Fuck people, Grand Archives is FUCKING AWESOME, are you haters FUCKING STUPID? God!

Um, unless I'm misreading everything else written about GA in this here paper, it has all been positive. It would seem JZ is making an albeit obtuse point about fame, popularity and trends with regards to bands and music.

maybe you all need to take a deep breath *ahhhh* see, isn't that nice?

" All this hatred?" In the slog? Shocking isn't it. This band does not push the right buttons for me. So sue me if life is too short to be listening to boring music.
Lighten up people it's just comments and opinions. I drive many of my friends and wife crazy with the music I listen to. Some even comment on it pretty negatively others love it.
Grow more skin, limit your time listening to kexp and stop using your oxygen tanks so much.

um, there are way better bands then them. there are way more prolific bands. why is the stranger focusing on this band when there are thousands of bands out there? the question is, what happended to the strangers rock coverage? since when does a band with a great demo beat all the other bands with really great demos? Because scentsters reward other scensters. Cha Cha employees get first crack. Remeber Cobra High? they blew. the stranger was all over that. Girl Talk? not rock. Look at the AWK coverage, that is rock, but no one cares. There are amazing bands that get neglected, while bands who played one fucking show get press, but hey. whatevs. How about skipping the dj and scenster crap for one day, or one article and focus on rock. Band of the week is a step in the right direction. carissas whatever sucked. get over it. you repoted their new deal. good. get over it. blasting bloggers because they disagree with you is funny. stow it!

answer:

So what's the name of your band, wade?

the songs are good. i'm happy for those guys. haters... how is the modest mouse slot and subpop deal NOT news? how is any of this 'hype' or annoying in any way? this is a good thing.

Still haven't heard the band, so I can't comment on their music, but I do like that Sub Pop has been signing more local artists of late. Of course, I wish it were me and not some other guys, but it's nice they're keepin' it local. I'm psyched to see what Hardly Art starts doing, too.

And hey, GA may be on sub pop, but I'm band of the week! Boo-ya!!!!

I think Wade/Biggie J made some good points.

I'm not defending the haters, but if you don't want discourse then please turn off the comments.

Who cares if he/they are in a band? Since when does being in a band bar you from commenting on the local music scene? How about being a DJ?

Positive criticism can be a very effective tool. Elitism, not so much.

Let's leave the shit talking for the ladies room.

Music is fun.

What kind of sick comment is wishing the drummer would die of liver cancer? Karma is an ugly thing my friend.
