Lady Sovereign @ Crocodile Cafe

Lady Sovereign - Crocodile Cafe

S! O! Veee!

Hollywood Holt took us all back to a tongue-in-cheek time of Sir Mix-A-Lot, 2 Live Crew, and speed-humping the stage — keep an eye on him — Chester French might be the worst band in the world, but Lady Sovereign did everything right.

On her first tour, opening up for The Streets, she won over an innocent and unaware crowd. On her second, she mocked her own songs and was days away from collapse. Here, she looks happy and full of fun, wearing a "Married To The Mob" sweat-shirt and a polar bear wool hat.

It's just a DJ, a drum-kit, and her.

Like it should be.

The songs sound dramatically better in person. "Bang Bang," "Jigsaw," and "Let's Be Mates." The new album's material lights up. Introducing "So Human," her latest single, she tells us, "I know you all hate this one, but I don't care and I fucking love it." After tonight, so does everyone else.

It's good she's gone independent. She's made a transitional album — a record no one wanted — but is better for it.

No "9 To 5" or "Hoodie" and that's okay.

She's all smiles and the audience beams back the whole time.

"Doesn't it feel much better, when you've had a better day than yesterday?"

Being at her previous show (before she collapsed) I had different expectations last night. She blew me away! I did not expect how much fun the show was. And she still is so nice in person. Loved it!

You failed to mention that she showed up at easy street records earlier in the day, came on stage and said "I dont really feal like performing, is the cool with everyone?" after stopping half way through her first song and ending the show. Very very uncool.

Awesome show (if a bit on the brief side)! I was really surprised by the audience, though - I had no idea that so many frat boys were into Lady Sovereign.

What show were you at? That was the 3rd time I've seen her and it was the least amount of fun. The crowd was barely moving and I think the lack of energy was affecting her as well. She just kinda walked around on stage looking kind of bored or tired. I don't blame her.

Also, I don't know if I think starting a label that is distributed by EMI is exactly independent.. but, whatevs. I don't think it really compares to Public Warning anyways..

@6) Nice. Way to single yourself out as the hipster piece of shit who just stood there barely moving with your arms crossed. The show I was at was amazing with dancing, jumping around, partying, and feeding off of Sov's energy as she simultaneously fed off of ours, resulting in the most refreshing performance I've seen her do out of the four shows of hers I've gone to.

Wow, you just (wrongly) assumed a whole lot about me. I don't even know how to reply to posts like this anymore?

Keep on trolling.
