So, the War Room is doing rock shows again. The live sound in that room is great (and really loud) if you can fill it with a decent crowd. Anyway, tonight's show, which I stupidly forgot to pitch for this week's Up & Coming section, should be reason enough to fill the place.
Headlining are Loving Thunder, who are excellent, who we've already written about a few times, and whose song "Liferider" (off last year's split 7-inch with Philadelphia's Mountain High) is a harbinger of great things. Also playing are Weirdlords, who've gone through some lineup changes, and, perhaps as a result, have been technically proficient yet gloriously raucous the last few times I've seen them. I wrote this about one of the more recent shows:
Weirdlords, whose original dual bass players Steve King and Al Lenderick are now joined by Thomas Wright (Grand Archives, the Can't See, ExBestFriends) on drums and Jerome Sosa (Pipsqueak, Snuggle) on guitar. Despite reportedly having practiced only four times as this incarnation, the band sounded very on, and it was a great set to hear on Neumos's appropriately loud sound system. The mix helped with bass-tone separation, and songs like "The Day is Dead" and "Lusterous Methodology" were definite highlights. Here's to hoping we see more of these dudes on stage in the near future
Lastly, new band Brawley Banks is comprised of Jorum Young and Justin Schwartz (Cobra High), William Goldsmith (Sunny Day Real Estate, The Fire Theft), Tonie Palmasani (Vells, Red Stars Theory), Ben Strehle (The Blessed Light), and German Nuestro. They're so new they don't even have any music available on the Internets, but judging by the personnel alone, tonight should be an excellent sneak peek at this auspicious outfit.
