Teenage Jesus & the Jerks' Showbox Date Nixed, But They May Play Another Area Venue

Posted by on Tue, Sep 1, 2009 at 3:53 PM

Well, it seemed too good to be true anyway, so reunited no-wave unit Teenage Jesus & the Jerks' cancellation of their Oct. 10 Showbox date really doesn't come as a surprise.

I'm still trying to find out the reason for Lydia Lunch & co.'s cancellation. Her site and the rest of the internet are strangely silent about the matter. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: Showbox talent booker Chad Queirolo says, "Unfortunately, the show had sold very few tickets, so we canceled it. Hopefully it'll play off at another small venue, but I am uncertain of that."

Honestly? I was dying to go, so much so, that I busted ass to make sure I could get a ticket...I was imagining tons of people waiting for this amazing historic band to play after so long, and now I find out it's been cancelled because so few people bought tickets??? Holy shit Seattle...I am speechless. It's a sad day...

Wow, very disappointing. I was planning to go. That would have been at least 2 attendees.

I figured it wouldn't sell out, so I was just planning on paying at the door. Sorry to let the team down, guys!

i heard that when they played knitting factory in ny it was only half full and their set was only 15 minutes, so them not being able to sell many tickets and showbox isn't too surprising. very good band, though. hope this gets rescheduled.

I would have gone but I'm going to be out of town at the time. If they reschedule it on a different date, I'll be there.

NOOOOOO! I was so excited! But I too am guilty of waiting to buy a ticket. Though it did seem an odd place for them to play... Perhaps if I cut off one of my fingers and mail it to Lydia she might reconsider?

I flipped out when I saw that ad - so sad now. I also did not buy a ticket. Maybe if Thurston tours for his new book, then Lydia et al will come over. I did see Exene Cervenka and Lydia do angry poetry in Columbia, MO in 1995. There were perhaps 15 people there. Surely if LL will schlep to Missouri, she'll make it over here. I did read that they only played for 15 minutes at the Knitting Factory in NYC (this past spring).

That's not true at all! I was at that show (the earlier set) and it was packed! A fabulous show and not short either. I'm seriously surprised to hear that was even a rumor!

i was at the first reunion in nyc and the set was about 20 minutes...but there was some spaced out noise after. i mean c'mon. teenage jesus only had about 15 minutes worth of material. you think they're gonna write more stuff over 30 years later?...

and really...if they did, would you actually want to hear it??!

i was going to pay for a bit of nostalgia myself, but the loss of this show is no big deal. 30 less neu-no-wave kids will have one less thing to bitterly complain about on their blogs that no one reads, and 15 jaded seattle scenesters will have one less incredible show to love while showing zero emotion.

They hadn't sold enough tickets over a month before the show so the Showbox cancelled it? What the hell?!? It was more than a month before the freakin' show! I know quite a few people that were planning to go but didn't get tickets early. Once upon a time ago people could by tickets a week or two in advance or by them at the door. When I found out about the show I was so excited I almost peed. Now I'm just pissed!!! That's BS!
