The Best Band of the Day at Bumbershoot?

Holy Fuck

Yesterday, it was Gang Gang Dance. Today, it was Holy Fuck. (Dave Segal, batting 1,000.) I didn't catch their afternoon KEXP set, but I saw Holy Fuck's evening performance on the Broad Street stage; I'll have more about it tomorrow, but briefly: they had the crowd eating it up, clapping along and even crowd-surfing to their weird, robot-voiced future funk and muscular motorik grooves. It was great to see such an audience for one of the fest's more outre acts. The whole set was just one noise-inflected groove building to an elevated crescendo into another and another, with the whole thing reaching a seriously ecstatic climax in the soaring strings of "Lovely Allen." There was other good stuff today, but nothing topped that.

Holy Fuck were indeed great to watch and dance to under the evening sky. But that show, followed by MSTRKRFT's fratboy electro, were truly the one-two punch of the day. The Exhibition Hall was packed with pogoing kids sweating their asses off and having an amazing time. I left drenched and smiling like crazy.

It was an awesome way to close the night (for me). Did anyone catch them at the afterparty? I was going to go, but didn't make it.
