Garth Brooks is coming out of retirement for an extended run of shows in Las Vegas, Elvis-style. He's also standing up for other musicians, like him, who have been screwed over by the big, bad music-listening public:
"If the world goes silent for a day, we will realize how powerful we are. Athletics have got it right. Until we unionize, we have no power.”
I've always thought that if music needed one thing to make it really great, it's the arrogance and sheer lack of respect for its own fandom of professional sports*.
*And before you go nuts on me for being anti-union, I have to say: I like the idea of an actor's-style union for working-class musicians. But when people like Garth Brooks start complaining about having no power, I have the overwhelming urge to break out the world's smallest violin.
