Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, Metric Playing the End's Deck the Hall Ball

Posted by on Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 9:05 PM

Along with lesser (yet headlining) bands Muse, and 30 Seconds to Mars. It happens December 15th at the WaMu Theater, and tickets go on sale this Saturday at 10am. I might fuck with this just to see Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, and Metric all in one go.

Who do you suppose is more preppy/"privileged," anyway:

Vampire Weekend?

Or Phoenix?

(Before you answer, consider: Phoenix are from fucking Versailles; Vampire Weekend merely know how to pronounce Versailles correctly.)

I just don't really care about either band, and don't know anyone who does, other than to hold them up as an example of something to disdain (weak riffs, no sense of anything approximating urgency). Can we stop with these people already?

So let me get this straight: Your feelings are so hurt due to the recent commenter attack on your VW fetish that from now on whenever ANYTHING connected to them, or any band that may appear to be upper class and maybe college educated hits the blogs, you're gonna reflexively vent about that OLD comment thread? forever?

Do you not actually see how fucking retarded you are?

All right.

Who's starting up the "Fire Eric Grandy" Facebook page?

man, the popularity of phoenix is totally mystifying to me. i saw them in portland this summer, but went only to see (amazing, totally underrated in a serious way) the harlem shakes. they were good but ... like, really people?

Is it just me or is Phoenix just poor man's Hot Chip?

Phoenix may be overrated(probably) and benefit from their relationships with the Coppolas, Daft Punk, and Air(definitely). But if you can't tell that their music is significantly better(melodies, lyrics in non-native language, playing ability) than Vampire Weekend, you have a taste issue.

And you wonder why people call you a hack, Grandy?

Grandy,

You were verbally assaulted by a slew of people on your inexplicable unreciprocated love with Vampire Weekend. Get over it. What are you, still in kindergarten? Welcome to the internet. You'll get flamed for posting polarizing views on a blog that people read. Jesus H. Christ. Just shut the fuck up about it already. Your posts are being reduced to a second-rate Hipster Runoff. But the thing is people actually check line out to be informed, not to read your snark-infused failed attempts at humor to try to boost your e-penis.

@5: Did Phoenix really play in Portland this summer? I never saw a northwest date anywhere on their tour schedule; so I was glad that they have a spot -- even at such a megavenue -- in Seattle this year.

First of all its funny to hear people talk about Phoenix like they just came out. They've been around for 10 years. Second, hatin' on Vampire Weekend? That's so 2008, Stranger. I thought you were more post post-ironical that that. Very uncool.

Oh well, back to readaing pitchfork and drinkin Aranciata and being glad I live in New York not Seattle.

@1 re: who cares about phoenix / vampire weekend

umm... pitchfork seems to think phoenix and vampire weekend are good bands.

are you trying to tell me you're more pretentious than pitchfork? thats a mighty strange aspiration.

Are you trying to act like an idiot, or is that a real question?

i hate seattle, and not because of grandy. everyone's comments are just so fucking nasty. i wish this town would care a lot to praise instead of bash. old dudes getting off to their own comments. it's getting old.
