This video of French group Flairs' "Truckers Delight" is the diabolical handiwork of director Jérémie Perin. It is so very wrong. Enjoy, you sick, filthy bastards.
(Press release after the cut.)
Flairs, our very own love symbol has it all: he slaps his bass faster than fast (he's been playing for nearly every French band worth playing for including Mellow, Alex Gopher, Fugu and The Hushpuppies), sings brilliant tongue-in-cheek pop songs (check “Radio” and “French Cowboy”) and produces killer electro-dance tracks like “Truckers Delight.” Taken from Sweat Symphony, his brilliant debut album torn between his love for low fi rock à la Pavement and his need to sweat on the dance floor, here we see Flairs clearly embracing the latter. “Truckers Delight” is Flairs as his most sassy and danceable, packing a syncopated yet insanely funky synth line and his signature fuzz bass sound.
Some of you may know that the track is not brand new, as it was originally released on 7" together with Flairs' seminal single “Better Than Prince.” But it quickly went out of stock, thanks to support from the likes of 20jazzfunkgreats and Super Laser on the net, Pete Tong on the airwaves and Soulwax (they included the track on their NYE never dies mix on the BBC / Mixmag covermount CD) and Justice on the dance floor. So here we go again, back by popular demand on 12" format with 2 excellent remixes.
First we have veteran Alex Gopher of French touch fame who's chosen the dance floor as his home turf. His remix has all the ingredients of a floor-filler: a powerful electro beat, a huge bass and last but not least, yes, a siren to open the track. All aboard! Canadian Alixander III is taking some time off his duo Azari & III (who's debut EP “Hungry For The Power”- released by our friends from Cosmo Vitelli’s I'm a Cliché - is getting raving feedbacks and supports from Todd Terje, LaurentGarnier, Trevor Jackson, Tim Sweeney to name but just a few) delivers a more subtle and housey affair, infiltrating the track with his science for cool grooves and his trademark modern take on the classic Chicago sound.
The release of Truckers Delight comes together with an out-of-this world animated video directed by newcomer wunderkid Jérémie Perin who takes the song's title (a tribute to those little pleasures that the lonely truck- driver indulges himself in) and takes it to the next level. Think Spielberg's Duel + Russ Meyer's Faster Pussycat Kill Kill! and Marc Dorcel's wildest fantasies. All warped into an 8-bit Sega era style graphic. And this clumsy and somehow pretentious description doesn't even come close to what you're about to see: it's très funny,très dirty, -très sexy. Très Flairs indeed.
