Never Heard Of Em: Public Enemy

Posted by on Mon, Jul 16, 2012 at 2:49 PM

"Drake >>> Pubic Enemy," says 21 year old NPR intern, surprsing no one, angering everyone. Sure, it's infuriating that this know-nothing kid writes off an American classic—for my money, it's his description of Drake's "Over" that makes me want to start chucking ashtrays:

His hook over that yappy guitar, the service-academy beat that drops shortly afterwards, the bells on the top-end — it's all so viscerally pleasing.

I think it would viscerally please the gods if someone gave the top-end of his yappy mouth a service-academy beat-down.

Between this and Emily White's "I don't pay for music" essay, it sure does appear that NPR has learned to embrace all the attention/page hits they get when they throw their interns out to the wolves.

@1 My thoughts exactly. This piece pissed me off even more than the previous one, because the author didn't even try to engage with Chuck's lyrics--just his "flow." Unforgivable oversight.
