If you're a fan of ghoulcore, this time of year certainly has you revisiting Samhain's very short but very sweet catalog.

For those not in the know, Samhain was Glenn Danzig's post-Misfits band. Originally started as a side project, Samhain garnered Danzig's full attention after the recording debacle that was Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood. History tells that "Bloodfeast" and "Death Comes Ripping" from that record were originally intended to be on the first Samhain album. If you ask me, they're the best offerings from that last real-Misfits gasp.

Personally, I don't even link the Misfits and Samhain in the genre. Samhain is perfect deathrock, as proven by the stray howls and growls littering each LP. The first three releases—Initium, Unholy Passion EP, & November Coming Fire are absolutely creepy and brilliant. Eventually Rick Rubin appeared and put dollar signs into everybody's eyes and Samhain became Danzig. Which isn't to say it's bad. It's just different.

Huge audio link bonanza after the jump!
