More Bettye LaVette Lervin'

Posted by on Fri, Jan 4, 2013 at 12:58 PM

Last month I went on about Ms. Bettye LaVette singing her deep burner "Let Me Down Easy," LIVE on TV; it's so good. Well, today, it's one of her sides I happened to find in my record boxes LAST NIGHT when I was looking for THIS. Anyways, dig it; it's a POUNDER.

Ms. LaVette has had a long and somewhat distinguished career and tho' she is still slightly...um, "underground," she is still active and touring. Everything I've heard her sing, even her remake of the Moody Blues' "Nights in White Satin" is gorgeous and soulful. Oh, I guess you could file this along side my obsessive lerve for both Irma Thomas and Barbara Lynn.

I don't know Irma Thomas or Barbara Lynn. I'll check 'em out. My faves in this vein are Helene Smith and Little Ann.

Little Ann is great. She only ever had one side issued, ever...till that LP came out a few years back.
