The MC Type takes a hilarious swipe at emotional, so-sincurr posi-rap, which, as you might know, is currently the young Seattle rap fan's bread and butter:
It's definitely not about a "who" in particular, rather a type of sub genre in general. I think art is at its best when the message isn't as obvious or laid out and direct. When I wrote "Ocean of Emotions" I was intending to take the shtick of emotional hip hop and drive it to the edge of its boundaries to expose how silly it can get.
Those who do it well need not feel attacked by my spoof, because they are not under fire here. It's their children, their immature rapper spawn, that they birthed with their soul-spilling bars who I really can't respect. A xerox of xerox.
It is not emotional hip hop that dilutes rap music. It is 1) us segmenting rap into separate genres which generally ends up having racial undertones and 2) the newer generation's cry of this being "real hip hop" and feeling a need to create it.
If all your favorite rappers are white, you're racist and you just don't know it.
PS - The face paint was a specific look we chose to create a balanced spoof of all "Emo" genres. It is clearly more of a rocker video feel with the indie rapper sound track.
