home funk

this place has that pan-african groove which is like everybody knows everybody is part of the same human family. tho it's not as intensely african as some other places around town, it's like an oasis of genuine ethnic culture when you step in out of the market tourist crowds, with good african music setting the mood. all the dishes I've had have been excellent--the combo plattters which you eat with your hands, and the beef stew, which comes with rice and a great salad. for 109 bucks, once you factor in tax and tips, you get a great meal. the meals are filling without over-stuffing you. it's a great change of pace from pretty much everything else around the market, and from most of the rest of downtown too. the drinks are a little pricey--the beers are like $5 and up for redstripe or a few african beers, or for a pike brewery ale. the wines start at $6-7/glass, with a very good selection. extremely friendly people. I stop in any time I pass by and am hungry with ten bucks to burn.

good african and friendly service

good, standard african fare. i ordered the indvidual veggie combo which was reasonably priced at about $8, sat and people watched. nothing spectacular, but a comfy, quiet after-work place with friendly people
