Once a major regional theater led by directors such as Warner Shook (who brought the first regional production of Angels in America to Seattle in 1994) and Bartlett Sher (who won a Tony for his 2008 revival of South Pacific), Intiman stood tall in the national landscape. In 2011, it collapsed under the weight of leadership and financial problems and re-opened as a rental house with a summertime festival. Cornish College of the Arts took over and changed the name to Cornish Playhouse at Seattle Center, so technically the physical "Intiman Theatre" doesn't exist anymore. But theater people will be calling that tall building "Intiman" for many years to come.
