1st Hill Bar and Grill

Restaurant
901 Madison St

Across from Vito's on Madison, the 1st Hill Bar & Grill is a great dive that's been around forever. In front is a pleasant, ordinary diner with anti-contemporary upholstery and plastic ivy. The party's in the back: an unbeatably awesome old-school lounge with murals of Greek ruins.

We're Going to miss this place...

Last night (5/11/2013) we decided to grab a little "diner dinner" at George's. We had just finished locking up the bookstore at St. James. To our surprise and dismay, the lights were off and there, on the door, was a hand printed note announcing the closing of the First Hill Bar and Grill. Eating there once a month after Mass, had been a sort of pilgrimage for us. We certainly will miss George, ever the good host and always cheerful. Thanks to all who made First Hill Bar and Grill our first choice for many Sunday evenings.

Greek Family Food

George and the staff make you feel like family arrived off the boat and needing to be fed! Great food....do the flaming cheese...you won't be sorry...flames doused with lots of lemon squeezed all over. OMG!

Wonderful atmosphere inside....just a great neighborhood place. Really good food of all kinds; great drinks.

Like home away from home

I've been coming here for the past 8 years and I must say this is the First Hill bar and Grill is really a home away from home. Fantastic food, great staff and always brings a smile on my face. Hopefully it will on yours as well. Breakfast in the morning here is great, whether you get the standard american style omelette or something more with a Greek flare to it, it is always delicious. Hope you give it a try. I did, and I kept coming again and again.
