The Polish Home, aka Dom Polski, is not so much a restaurant as a happening. It's a private club that serves Seattle's Polish community, but one-time memberships are available to the public for $1 on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons, when friends and acquaintances and (if you're smart) you gather to socialize, drink Polish beer and cold vodka, and eat. Servers appear and return at random intervals in the brightly lit room, bearing ludicrously large plates of Polish fare: the famous pierogis, the multifarious Polish Platter, the hock (a diminutive word for a plate-engulfingly huge specimen of ham). Also, the bar in the corner is weird and wonderful. Welcome to the very best of Eastern Europe, right here at home.
