Set in early 1960s Poland, Pawel Pawlikowski’s visually stunning black-and-white film follows Anna, who grew up in a convent orphanage. The mother superior orders her to visit her only living relative before she takes her vows. Anna goes to stay with her fast-living aunt, and they embark on a trip to their home village to find out how Anna’s parents died and get some closure on what happened to their family during World War II.
