Stranger Says:Sofia (the very fine Julie Andersen), a surly 18-year-old, has a crap life by any standard. She lives in a dreary town and shares a trailer with her half-sister, Olivia (Simone Lykke), on her abusive stepfather's property. The men in their lives are shit, so they hit the road to find Sofia's long-lost father, except Adam (Alexandre Willaume) is a man with a serious case of PTSD, though there's a core of decency beneath the antisocial façade that Sofia is determined to uncover. As surly meets surlier, what starts out as a grim coming-of-age tale turns into a surprisingly affecting thriller. (KATHY FENNESSY)
SIFF Says:Yearning to find the biological father she never knew, Sofia and her naïve half-sister Olivia search far and wide and come upon a PTSD-suffering soldier in this harrowing coming-of-age drama.
